Back in February of this year, developer Codemasters made it public knowledge that multiple DLC packs would be released for Colin McRae: Dirt 2 shortly after the game’s launch. As explained by Senior Executive Producer Gavin Raeburn, the said DLC would allow players to personalise and augment the boxed game – a vague and intriguing statement.
Sure enough, two DLC packs labelled ’Trust Fund’ and ’Access All Areas’ are alluded to (but greyed-out) under downloadable content in the Extras segment of DiRT 2’s menu interface. Yesterday, this content became available on the US PlayStation Store – don’t worry Europe, you’re not missing anything…
The US PlayStation Blog details the new content:
DiRT 2 Trust Fund ($4.99)

We are disappointed. After almost eight months of hype, high hopes and speculation, all we’re given is the option to instantly unlock and access all in-game content – content that can in fact be acquired free-of-charge by simply devoting a mere 8-10 hours to completing DiRT Tour mode. It makes us wonder: if a gamer has no intention of playing through the integral component of a game, why buy it at all?
So no new cars, or additional tracks, just an easy way out. What a shame.
Chris: uumm… multiplayer maybe? idk. does DiRT 2 even have a splitscreen mode?
Generally, multiplayer components are not integral but complimentary to the core of a game, often serving as preparation for the online gaming experience. If single player wasn’t important, surely multiplayer-only games would dominate the market which, at present, they do not.
Don’t get me wrong, you make a fair point, but buying a game just to play one segment of the overall package doesn’t make any sense to me. That’s my view, anyway. Plus, I like to play my way through a game, not pay my way through.
Fenox:
Codemasters…i will never forget this crap…
bye bye ….Operation Flashpoint ….f1 2009….Fuel …Grid…..and all your Raeburn hype crap.
Pete:
I have always been a great fan of Codemasters ever since their first games and I am going back to when games were on cassette tapes. They were a low budget but high quality company and always produced good stuff at a low price, thank you for that Codemasters. However, I do believe that if companies continue to rip people off with this so called DLC then poeple will eventually quit buying games and the industry will go down. Responding to Fenox, I too am disappointed with the empty promise of an F1 game for 360, I have about given up on it and will not buy another system just so I can get the game I want. Pretty soon, we will have the means to produce our own games in the home just like music production, it has become affordable and education is available in abundance. My message is just keep pushing guys, keep on taking until your own pockets are empty, its very sad to see so much corruption and greed within this industry and you wonder why there is so much piracy, people will always find a way if the price aint right.
mmgm:
I don’t agree with paying for something that should be included in the game to begin with, these are basically just cheat codes – with just about any other games you can find the code online, now they want you too actually pay for it? It’s just not worth it.
James:
I think its great value, for a gal on the go like myself its perfect and at only $4.99 i might even buy it twice!!!
Honestly, I don’t see what the big deal is. If you see it as “corrupt”, then don’t buy it. It’s just for people who can;t be f-ed to finish a game. Everything included in the DLC is available once you finish the game, anyway, so who cares? Finish the game, save $5.
Darren: It’s a cop-out andrew. Personalise and augment the boxed game indeed… what Codemasters meant was ‘buy our game, then pay us to cheat your way through it’. Ridiculous.
I have to ask; why buy the game at all if you have no intention of finishing it? Just don’t buy the game, save $50.
Timber: Andrew, it’s more about business ethics and individual morality.. I know, small things to this generation, but is still the foundation that this (or any) industry or structure is constructed on. You may not see the cracks that will cause it to crumble, you may be too young to see across a span of time.. Know your history, because it’s happening again.
So far, I’m quite dissapointed with DiRT 2, it seems like they took 10 steps backwards from DiRT 1. The tracks or ” rally stages” if you will, are so limited, you see the same thing over and over again. With DiRT it was much more diverse, playing with my friend, he even noticed roads he had cycled on in Europe. While I can’t say for sure, it seems like DiRT 2 isn’t even based on real roads for the most part. And 8 laps around the Los Angeles X-Games track for the “Domination” thing, holy crap, I was so bored. This is so lame. And what the heck, A 350Z and an Eclipse rally car? I’m not saying they don’t exist, just that I’ve never ever seen them, and I don’t want to drive them on dirt roads, not in real life, or on XBox. So where are the European cars, C4, Focus RS, Fiesta? The only thing I can say if really good, is the feel of driving from inside the car, that’s pretty sweet, now if only we had some roads to drive on.
At least I can still play the original DiRT. That was a good game. One more thing, can I please have a snow rally, good grief.
I thought dirt 2 was a great game, graphics were really good especially the backdrops. It does need a snow stage and definitely more tracks and random weather like rain. But as for there not being any real rally cars, the only reason i can give is that americans want to drive cars that they like and that they think are cool…not hatchbacks
csreynolds:
The car selection was not a HUGE disappointment, even though Codies promised over 40 licensed vehicles (delivering only 35)… the DLC was. I certainly agree that a selection of snow races are needed (Switzerland DLC pack?). Having another country to race in would be DLC I’d definitely purchase.
I sincerely doubt they’ll release any Citroens since GT5 bought the rights to the WRC. Hopefully they’ll release some Fords now that Ken Block is going to be driving a Fiesta, and Monster WRT ave a Focus. Here’s hoping!
Cody: I really loved the original dirt for ps3…although the vehicle handling is way better in dirt 2…I wish they could have taken both games and combined them…I’d like to see more rally stage and more realistic tracks. I feel like they went too much down the arcade route for this version.
Rob: I feel the same that the game was a huge disappointment, the game lacked any cars that really had any effect on rally in the past……..Not a single Lancia, peugeot, renault and the classic subaru’s and nissa’s and also where was FORD…………! That game was a poor excuse for rally game becuase of a lack of quality tracks and the over advertising of the “X GAMES” and people who began a career as a punk on a skate board or BMX. Codemaster’s have let the entire rally followers down just because of a focus on an age group no older than 16. I’m 19 and it appears I know more about the rally scene. The driving was ok and the effects where cool but I want a bit more than that pretty picture they are slapping me with. I also cant ever play the game again because they chose the Bowler Nemesis over the WILDCAT….!?! This also proves my point as to just painting a pretty picture. I was greatly let down as there was no scottish rally aswell and it was named after a scottish rally legend, its a let down, thats it, just a let down.
Jeff:
With all the over advertising you’d think they could put Pastrana’s Red Bull logo on his car at least. They slap it on a dumb@$$ Volkswagen toureg but not an actual sponsored driver’s car? Yeah the game is pretty much all about Monster Energy, but TP is a multitime Rally winner and champ. Speaking on DLC, where the hell is Block’s new ride. Throw that kickass 2010 Ford Fiesta Monster Rally Team in a DLC with some of TP Red Bull liveries and I’ll throw down $5.
