Zipper Interactive “MAG” Open Beta servers online 01/04/10 – 01/10/10
Sony and Zipper Interactive (Socom Series) have announced the beta drop date for their massive 256 player “Online Only” multiplayer military war zone game MAG of January 4th, and that it will be active for only 7 days, concluding January 10th at 23:59 Pacific Standard Time. You may download the client game through PSN now, however, Sony has made it quite clear that you will not actually enter the game until the beta servers open.
MAG has been designed to be a squad based military battlefield with each player assuming a different rank on either team and Commanders having top rank assuming command with a top down view of the game where they can dictate orders for the lower ranking militia. MAG is to be released on January 26th in North America and Asia, unfortunately Europe may or may not have a slight delay with their release.

Yes, but who decides who gets to be the commander?
The commander is decided automatically based on the ranks of the specific players in the game. I assume that there’s a way to refuse to be an officer, but I’m not entirely sure of that. Click my name to take a look at a video from IGN that answers a lot of the questions that you’ll have.
