Xbox 360 Could be ‘Distant Third’ by 2009
According to a series of recent reports by the research group DFC Intelligence, the game industry is poised to see enormous overall growth in 2009, just in time for the Xbox 360 to slip to a distant third place in the console race.
DFC estimates that the videogame market will swell to $47 billion by 2009, a 42 percent increase over the $33 billion generated by the industry in 2006. That forecast includes revenue from videogame hardware and software, dedicated portable system hardware and software (i.e. the DS and PSP - not mobile phones), PC games, and online PC and console games.
But the Xbox 360’s selling power could be on the wane, according to DFC’s research. The company has raised its forecast for the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 and lowered its forecast for Microsoft’s console, predicting that the Wii will stay on top at least through 2008 and that the PS3 will move into overdrive in 2009.

I hope so. And in preperation, I just bought a PSP while here at college and got Jeanne D’arc and preordered FF Tactics. As long as Sony doesn’t betray this loyalty, I would never regret buying my PS3 and PSP. I might even buy a PS2 silver just for collection or to play some DDR games without an adapter.
in the end ps3 will win.everybody knows that.
We’ll know by mid 2008.
The PS3 is the best system of the century. The features are amazing and thanks to the online updates it will seem like a brand new system even in 2010. The PSP is just as good, I dont have one so I dont know all the features. XBox 360 is a bland, boring, “Officially Uncool” system by Microsoft, PS3 has stomped it into the ground, and the only people who are gonna buy it now are “Fratpack Teabaggers”. These are real facts…
When the XBox 360 was first released it had many errors and had to be temporarily recalled.
PS3 had a great beginning, thanks to good engineers only 1/1000 systems had an error.
In order to play with other people online on the XBox 360 you must pay $7.99 a month, $49.99 a year. There arent that many online games either.
PS3 has an internet browser, and almost every game is online. As long as you currently have an internet connection its completely free.
The XBox’ cheap build made it easier for it to overheat, fall, and it is more volnerable to surges.
PS3 has a warranty that covers the surges and overheats, it is also made with stronger plastic.
If that isnt enough I dont know that is.
Only thing in its way is the vast resources that Microsft continues to generate from its mandatory, buggy Vista OS. They have the money to hype up their games and buy exclusives away from Sony. It is always buy because it is the publishers who provide the money for the developers to work on their games. They did this with Ace Combat 6, Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5, and Assassin’s Creed.
I have a lot of respect for gamers and developers who stayed loyal to Sony during their shaky first year of launch. Those who owned a PS2 has something that has lasted almost a decade. The developers who spent time on it has games that are still selling now. This is opposed to how Microsoft stopped the production of Xbox just to drive up the sales of the 360, there’s not even a Xbox section on gamespot and ign anymore. As long as Sony stays dedicated to its rich content and large community, it will strive.
I don’t see how, Sony needs to ramp up it’s online, I have both consoles and don’t even try to play Sony online because of the unfriendly interface and matchmaking. I would rather pay $50.00 a year to have downloadable content and a solid multiplayer experience than get a free less than avererage service.
The PSN is a jike compared to Live Marketplace. It really needs to improve in order to take a lead there. It is better to have multiple consoles, it keeps the need for improvements alive.
Keep it in perspective. By 2009 the 360 will be an after thought; however, by that time MS will undoubtedly have a new system on the market.
