Why Uncharted 3 should take place in Atlantis
We have come to enjoy playing games with great stories and like-able characters. Nathan Drake has defiantly become one of the most iconic characters to hit the gaming scene. He is a very intelligent explorer that has the mentality to leap before he looks. Our buddy Nathan has discovered El Dorado and Shambala, but what is next on his list of discoveries?
We have all heard rumors of where Drake is heading next, and it seems to be down to three places: Norway, Egypt, and The Lost City of Atlantis. I'm not sure what they could do that’s in Norway. I have looked up Norwegian lore and legends, but I have come up with nothing. The only thing I can imagine they could use are tales of the Vikings and maybe some of their treasure. There is a lot they can do with Egypt though. They have the option of several tombs of pharaoh’s such as King Tutankhamen. Then they could have a mummy come to life and do a story similar to the Mummy movies with Brandon Frasier. The option that stands out the most though is Atlantis.
The biggest advantage to Atlantis is that it's mostly uncharted territory(Had to do it). There have been a few Atlantis games like the one on Atari, and the game based of the movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire on PC. The fact is, the only console game that remotely touches base with Atlantis is the original Tomb Raider. Lara Croft had to face the Atlantian creatures in her adventure. Which makes it fit even more for Drake because Uncharted was inspired by Tomb Raider. Naughty Dog took the idea of Tomb Raider and made a charming savant explorer that can discover any uncharted myth. They have used legends that people have always dreamed of discovering in their games, and Atlantis is an allegory that tops them all.
In the previous Uncharted games they have used myths that are somewhat realistic. To most this is why Atlantis wouldn’t be a good fit for Drake. Atlantis is open to anything, at its creators digression . An idea that I have that would solve this realistic issue with Atlantis, is how the lost civilization has progressed. When Drake discovers Atlantis its people and city has gone through progression and are no different then the rest of the world. This could tie in lost people traveling through the Atlantic Ocean over the years including the likes of Amelia Earhart. They will have immigrated into the Atlantian culture and teaching the population as the years go on. Using and idea like this would keep The Lost Empire in a realistic check for the Uncharted franchise.
With Atlantis the sky is the limit, and no one has truly executed this location in a video game. Naughty Dog has complete control to do whatever they desire with the Lost City. There's no set idea on what Atlantis would look like, how to get there, or what the inhabitants would be like. It would a be a true test of the imagination. Then you have all the possibilities with the multiplayer maps; just imagine a water based Uncharted map! In Uncharted 2 Naughty Dog has some the best looking snow ever made in a video game, and perhaps this time they could make amazing water. Placing Uncharted 3 in Atlantis could cement this franchise in a place among the greatest games, because they pushed for a challenge to please their fans, and do something that hasn’t been done yet.

Tslking enough about it may ring a bell in SONY producers ?
but , you all know how long this would take , as for now a
bunch of games have been delayed ! underwater would be a whole
lot better than outerspace ! Keep Posting ! Atlantis or Bust !
I think he meant to say definitely instead of defiantly...
Common mistake if that's what you meant to write.
You make good points.. and I have always been a fan of Atlantis and uncovering the mystery of it (even if it's a video game), would be a treat.

gays
What stuppid dis game is fucking stuppid
the guy above me is totally right :)
Whereas I like some of your arguments, there are some holes in your logic or imagination. I agree with Marilyn regarding your lack of Norse mythology... seriously, you did research and couldn't think of anything? I think your worldly knowledge is lacking; either that or a better research methodology may be warranted.
Lastly, I'm pretty used to poor writing on blogs these days, so I'm not sure what you mean by "Nathan Drake has defiantly become one of the most iconic characters to hit the gaming scene." To me, Drake is such a movie-style character that his foray into games was inevitable, but in using the word "defiantly", you make it sound like his popularity has had to overcome some obstacles (intentional or not) to become so.
Yall are all shouting out great ideas and I like Atlantis but if your going for another lost civilization go with yona Guni which was rumored to be near Japan
In this book I read it said that lore points to a secret room below the sphinx with all the lost clues to Atlantis, when a team went to check it out... there scanners showed a massive chamber filled with boxes but the Egyptian government wouldnt let them dig too it. Could mix.
I dont care where the next Uncharted game takes place. Drakes Fortune, though it had its fair share of problems, had well told story and created a wonderful base for my favorite game of all time U2 Among Thieves. Not only was the gameplay great but the story captivated me in a way that no other game has. Wherever the next game takes place i know Naughty Dog is going to make an amazing game. I cant wait to see where the tale of Nathan Drake goes next!
Atlantis would be quite interesting.
But, it would also be interesting if some part of the game was set somewhere like the Grand Canyon. Or, some other US setting would be cool...like Alaska, the Sierra Mountains or Yellowstone.
Well, I guess one of the PS1 TR games had the Nevada desert in it.
But, I'm quite interested in the Vikings and Scandinavian mythology.
You could have lots of unique and interesting areas from Scandinavia. Maybe even part of Oslo, København , Reykjavik or Stockholm for the urban settings.
Anyways, Uncharted 3 is probably going to have lots of different and interesting settings like the previous 2 games. Whether it is Atlantis, Norway or Egypt.
Very good point dude, I agree Atlantis would kick ass!!
I'd play this game if it came out!
not too up on Norse mythology but a trip to Norway may have something to do with Valhalla or Asgard?
I should have mentioned (Good article) I like it Trent -
"The sky is the limit" very good !
and I sure hope this will not contain a bunch of freaking
Monsters !

Nice article, but why can't they do all of the above. I mean in Uncharted 2 they went to Turkey, then to Nepal then Tibet. So could they not find a viking clue to Atlantis in Norway, which leads them to egypt to find a map and then onto Atlantis (wherever that is). Just a thought.
hmmm , The Drake & Croft expedition , where they meet up
with lost souls from missing air crafts and sunken ships -
I don't know if they'll try that angle ? or meet up with the father
son and the holy ghost and start singing bye,bye american pie and then run into Donavon and start ingesting chemicals ?
now it's to the point who will out do who ?

You forgot to list Indiana Jones and the fate of Atlantis. One of the best Lucas arts games from that era.
OMG! I agree completely Atlantis would ROCK!
