Which Games Deserved The Hype?

There comes a time in a game’s introductory stage where, if marketing is applied correctly, hype levels go through the roof (à la GTA IV). However, as you may well know, some games are drastically over-hyped, and end up being a bit disappointing.

Also, what about the games that suffer from ineffective marketing, and end up being overlooked? A couple that come to mind are Uncharted and Ratchet, not that they had insufficient promotion, but both are equally fantastic games that some people underrate because they are lost within the midsts of modern gaming hype.

There have been some fantastic games released over the past year, but did any of the big releases leave you with a bad after-taste? Leave your suggestions in the comments section below as to which games lived up to the expectations that their hype suggested, those that didn’t deserve as much publicity, and the hidden gems within the PlayStation 3’s ever expanding library of games.

  1. MGS4 needed MORE hype to live up to how mouth-wateringly orgasmic it was, and GTA IV lived up to the hype it had.

  2. Lol, I agree, really enjoyed MGS4 and GTA IV.

As you may already have realised, Uncharted blew me away. I don’t think that it received enough praise.

  3. quakewars enemy territory waste of $63.59

  4. The only problem i had with GTA IV is the way the vehicle camera was designed, but otherwise marketing was perfect to the game.

  5. The vehicle camera?

  6. Haze. I wanted so much more from that game. Such a pity.

  7. MGS4, although it was not nearly as hyped as games like Halo 3, was much, much better, and deserved an incredible amount of hype. It is the single greatest game created by man. That definitely deserves hype.

Who cares, though? MGS4 doesn’t need to stoop down to Halo’s level for hype. M$ spent millions in making everyone know about Halo 3, and it sucked. MGS4 had about a quarter of Halo’s amount of hype, yet it’s 10x better

  8. COD 4, ’nuff said. Still getting plenty of play time even after I’ve purchased a ton of other games.

  9. jaydiggle, I know what you mean. When I first heard about Haze, I was excited. Then after numerous delays and the release of COD4, I never really felt the need to purchase it.

The demo confirmed my expectations, that it was in fact, a let down.

  10. GTA4 I didnt even bother playing through, MGS4 though is one of the best games ever, completed it in 2 days. Haze was obviously overhyped.

  11. My friend was sad enough to buy haze, he said it was poor. GTA4 was average cos vehicle cameras sucked and online (main reason I got it) was badly set out and takes forever to find a match I can connect to.

  12. I like a deep game. One that requires days to complete even on the medium levels. Resistance is very good. The graphics could be better, but the gameplay is as addictive as any I have ever played.

  13. Well Gta 4 Was a Dissapointment. Games Like Battlefield Need More Hype

  14. I agree with some of you and disagree with others,
GTA 4 was brilliant so was Uncharted Drakes Fortune and Resistance Fall of Man.
As for Haze I thought it was O.K, could have been alot better.
Battlefield was rubbish and so was Quake Wars which was a shame because Quake 4 was excellent,
Halo 3 was overated as well, COD4 was much better game allround, as for MGS4 I havent had a chance to play it as it been released in Australia only a week ago.
    looking foward to playing,
    ALONE IN THE DARK
    FORCE UNLEASHED
    RESISTANCE 2
    KILLZONE 2
    DEAD SPACE
    RESIDENT EVIL 5
p.s I think that COD5 will be boring because the WW2 theme has been done to death.

  15. Resident Evil 5 looks amazing, couldn’t agree more.
