What really happened to PS3 Boomerang Controller
Ever wondered what happened to futuristic PS3 boomerang controller? Sony has never officially stated why they reverted back to Dual Shock controller now known as "SixAxis".
Computerandvideogame.com has recently stated in an article that Teiyu Goto, a man who designed Playstation consoles in the past, revealed the truth behind PS3 boomerang controller which was heavily criticized by the industry when it was illustrated during E3 in 2005.
Mr. Goto in an interview with Official Playstation Magazine said "Quite frankly, we had set aside the ergonomic aspect in favour of the image it conjured up. We wanted to present an avant-garde model for the show, running a risk of being criticised." Furthermore he added, "It was very futuristic visually, but practically speaking you only had to hold it to realise how it compared to the Dual Shock 2. You know there are so many players who are used to the PlayStation controller; it's like a car steering wheel and it's not easy to change people's habits."
In a nutshell, what it boils down to is that practicality of the controller and the transition to new controller were the issues why Sony went back to Dual Shock 2 controller. I strongly believed that new controller will not break or make the system. Sony should of focused more on launching more games instead!!

The boomerang controller looks extremely comfortable to me. I'd probably own a PS3 had they stuck with the boomerang design.

Ok xbox 360 is for dorks! I hate all tha 360 cheaters!!! They can hack and change stats and just the type of people that play 360 are gay just like the xbox 360. The people that play ps3 r regular people who actually work and may play a game for 3hours a day max but the xbox crckheads play all day have never had sex Fck off xbox and u fans that controller is sweet I copted one for more then a console. It's sweet!! Never used it. I got both consoles and i think both controllers are fine. I kinda like the Xbox 360 controller better for its uniqueness. You are just a PS3 fanboy that uses bigboy words.
That's very true the xbox controller is a step ahead as it's more modern. sony have kept the same design since day 1. altho that is fan promoting it is stuck in the times a bit. personally i loved the boomerang controller cos it suited the look of the ps3 being 'modern'. if not that i hope sony at some point even until they might decide to release a ps4 give a shot at a new controller. (think its waaayyy too soon for a ps4! i think we could manage for near 10 yrs yet before we need a newbie... ps3 has only just got started!!)
Yes because that aweful game compares to the likes of infamous, uncharted 2, and demon's souls right? And yes, I own both systems, all in all, the ps3 is a far better system, better built, more capabilities, and much more powerful, it just doesn't double as a social networking site.

Great idea. as a ps3 gamer myself, i would prefer to have a variety of different controllers for gamers to select from to fit their gaming style. great idea sony.
Well, I love the ps3 to death,/and the original controller was cool, but rather impractical. However, it'd be nice if they continued to produce limited numbers of them for the hardcore gamers that want a break from the standard dualshock 3 sixaxis, not that there is a problem with it, but just to have a different feel to get you excited for differentiated controller grip and feel. nice job with improv, sony, but we want it back for novelty purposes.
