Speculation: There are unconfirmed reports from Japan that the Blu-Ray disc’s region code will be shared by the North and South America and Asia. Traditionally in the past, region code for Asia was separate from the America to protect economic interests. In other words, region codes were created to prevent illegal piracy and imports among countries; A person who buys imported video game for example, won’t be able to play that on American video game console and vice versa.

According to Game Informer Online, Blu-Ray disc will likely to have following region codes:

Region 1: East Asia, North and South America
Region 2: Europe and Africa
Region 3: China, Russia, and other countries.

This is a good news forfurture PS3 import fanatics (Japanese games and animes) and foreign movie buffs.
