Hello all!

So I got my copy of Unreal Tournament 3 this week - I must admit I really wanted it but didnt know why - it looked cool, I always enjoyed the older ones, and I like a well polished FPS, thats’ all true. However, what we must remember is that this is basically an online game! The bots are for practice only!

Nonsense.

Maybe its because I’m an only chilld, maybe its because I’m an old school games player who enjoys games for gaming’s sake, not just as a tool to banish the demons of childhood schoolyard inadequacy, but I’m quite happy playing against bots instead of real people - a) because I lose less frequently and b) because I can put whatever random mutators I choose into the game.

So after an hour I popped online to find out what mods I could find. I must recommend www.ut3mod.com as a source, because those clever people let you download mods directly onto your PS3, so long as you have a memory card/usb disk insterted and properly set up to accept the file. Maybe I’m being stupid, but it seems you can only install one at a time right now (e.g. download, go into the game, import, come back out, go to browser, download..etcetc.) but it’s still pretty simple.

Heres my rundown of the maps/mutators I’ve tried so far, and enjoyed. Bear in mind that these are my fave out of the ones I’ve tried, and if you have faves please, please post a comment about them, both myself and our other readers will be grateful.

1) Action cam (mutator)

This mod moves the perspective behind you, affecting a Gears of War look to the game. It’s a great mod that really highlights how similar both games are in design, and lets you see how cool your customised character looks in-game. Frankly I wouldnt recommend it if you’re going to play against people (you cant see your weapon for one, which adds something else to remember whilst playing), but for bot matches it’s a great laugh and shows the wonderful work put into character models.

2)Gibalicious (mutator)

Duh..it makes things even more gory — enough said.

3)Downpour (map)

Simply because of the rain it reminds me of one of the coolest maps in Gears of War (I have no idea what it was called..Deluge?), it adds a lot of atmosphere and tension, and something a little different from the standard fare of maps available.

4)Yard SE (map)

I love this, because it reminds me so much of goodtimes on its forbear UT3DM17. If you like shooting whilst propelled by jump pads through the air, you’ll love this.

5)Bathroom 3 Beta2 (map)

Look…its set in a GIANT BATHROOM. Not all my choices have to be sensible ok? Also, this has been in every version of UT, so it’s either good or the creator is tenacious - I respect both things.
