UK Retailers Preparing for PS3 Slim 2009 Release?

If any of you out there are looking to purchase a PS3 this summer, we advise you to strike while the iron’s very, very hot.
As originally reported by GhostStorm, WHSmith is currently selling the console at the unbelievable price of £200. GhostStorm has since made contact to investigate the reasons behind this surprising business move and, after speaking with the retailer’s customer services department, the answer was:
‘We are clearing PS3s to make room for any new products that may come from Sony in the future.’
The above statement begs the following question: are they expecting the arrival of the awaited PS3 Slim, of which rumours are already circulating? After all, WHSmith has explained they have no intention of discontinuing other consoles in-store, nor do they plan to stop selling PS3 titles. Could they be privy to a 2009 release date?
We hope we’ll have an answer for you soon.

That photo just looks like the top half of the existing PS3. Complete with the screw posts that keep the 2 halves together. I hope the rumors are not based on that photo.
You mean other than the P in a different font in the top right, the fact that it’s a different shape than the PS3’s top, says Sony on the front-left and doesn’t have neither the silver cover over the disc tray or the sloped cover on the left?
Its only the top part of the casing for the ps3 slim, its still unclear of just how “slim” the system will be though.
