The PS3 difference in 1UP’s Madden 08 Review: 8.5 for PS3 Vs 9 for 360

From the The PS3 difference part of review near the end:
“Sadly, just like with NCAA Football 08 and All-Pro Football 2K8, PS3 owners are stuck with an inferior version of Madden. While the game runs at 60 frames per second on Microsoft’s box, Madden only clocks in at 30fps on Sony’s console. The result? The gameplay isn’t nearly as smooth as the 360 version and even stutters at times.”

Aside from these player classifications, the developers went back and cleaned up some of their previous “experiments.” Superstar mode returns, but this time the position-specific camera angles are actually playable — the view’s been pulled back, which allows you to see more of the action. Also, rather than creating a superstar, you can also play this mode with one of the league’s top rookies. The game’s franchise mode takes another step forward with its scouting options, and for all you Xbox 360 owners, you’ve never played a Madden that moves as blistering fast and smooth as this one. That’s what 60 frames per second can do for football (see the sidebar for the unfortunate PS3 difference).

  1. I am thoroughly dissappointed in this years game, Madden ‘08. The graphics are great, the animation is well done. Where it leaves me in awe, and shaking my head is how the team that I have picked collapses at the worst possible time in each game I have played and been ahead by the 3rd qtr. I am now 3-8, where as in years before I have been dominant. Losing approx. 1 out of 4, 1 out of 5. I find that the cpu doesnt just make things difficult for you if your up when playing a friend, it makes it downright frustrating. Don’t get me wrong, I love close games, and I dont mind losing, but to continually have your rug yanked out from under you when in the previous 3 qtrs you have done everything right is just too much. I have lost more games to impossible last minute drives, stupid penalties, and all of a sudden unstoppable runs that I am now chosing to not play at all. Say what you want, but I think that cpu helps my friends play way to much, it doesnt just even things out, in my opinion, it slants it in an avalanche of favorable outcomes towards my oppenent. In too many games now, I have seen my D collapse at the worst possible times, seen my friend run thru my line like the guys were standing still, and catch balls on long shots that should have all been prevented with the types of D plays/options I have chosen. Then it gets worse, when I get the ball, my runs are now no longer effective, getting hit behind the line of scrimmage more times than not, and my receiver corps seem to be more interested in dropping the ball, when they catched with no problem in the first 3 qtrs. The D secondary for my team is also busy watching the ball get caught instead of preventing it from being caught. Then there are the penalties that I have taken, especially when I have had none all game, and at the worst possible times. One even turned into a safety, that allowed my opponent to get the ball back, and make an impossible drive up field, where it all of a sudden it didnt matter what D I picked he couldn’t be stopped, to make it into the end zone via pass that had 5 of my guys surrounding him on a prevent man coverage D, with a weak QB. I have had enough of the last minute turn arounds to leave me thoroughly disgusted with this years game. As far as I am concerned, when you do almost everything right and its a close game, you should win the majority of the time, not lose because of algorythm that starts tilting the odds against you, and ratcheting up big gains for your opponent, because they need the “help”. Or am I the only one whos noticed this???
