The life of Ken Kutaragi
For a man who at a time was the leading candidate for the position of Sony CEO, Ken Kutaragi came from humble beginnings. Born in Tokyo, August 1950, Ken came into a family that had little in the way of social standing. Even so, the Kutaragi family always had the drive and desire to work hard. That perseverance paid off when they were able to start their own their own Tokyo printing business in the 1960?s. He was always mechanically inclined; taking things apart from an early age, and then trying to put them back together. Though his parents knew he was talented, they had little clue as to what task those talents could be applied to. He was allowed to explorer their plant and see how the machines functioned in his free time from school where he was always in the top of his class. The machines interested him for some time, but soon his desire to learn about technology outgrew the limitations of the family plant. He began to teach himself all that he could about the then budding world of electronics.
Even with their modest living, Kutaragi?s passion for learning convinced his family to send him to the University of Electro-Communications where he could earn a degree in Electronics. Soon after his graduation, he immediately began work at the company where he would soon spend the next three decades of his life: Sony.
