Yesterday, Take Two announced that they will be developing a sequel to their highly acclaimed title Bioshock. Considering the commercial and critical success of the game, which many believe changed forever the landscape of first person shooter titles, this revelation comes as no great surprise to most.

Having fallen in love with the game myself, I can’t help but wonder how they could make a follow up title that progresses the story beyond the ending, which even I have to admit was terribly lacklustre at best. (I consider the run in with Andrew Ryan to be the single greatest cranial fornication in gaming history)

Speculation is that the game may very well be a prequel. It may indeed give the back story of how the society fell in on itself, and perhaps provide a little more depth regarding how the splicers came to be. If the sequel, whether it takes place before or after the events of Bioshock, is as half as good as the original (not counting System Shock), it will be a joy to play.

I just hope it has a better ending.
