In a news conference Monday, Sony has officially announced that consumers will see a worldwide simultaneous launch of PS3 console on November 17, 2006. Sony is heavily banking on this next-gen system that will compete aggressively against Xbox 360 and win the hearts of video gamers. Sony will release 2 different version of PS3 – a $499 version with a 20 gigabyte hard drive and another with a 60 gigabyte drive for $599. The pricing structure similar to Xbox 360 pricing scheme when it was released in November of 2005. However, consumer has to shell out additional $100 to $200 more for PS3 than Xbox 360. It does not seem to bother consumers as PS3 comes with Blu-Ray drive as well online capability.
