Sony has just issued a press release for the hardware specification for European PS3. In the press release, Sony indicates that PAL version of the PS3 will have very limited backward compatibility with PS and PS2. According to various news sources, Sony has moved the emulation load from the hardware to software. Sony has indicated that in the future, they were going to remove the emulation chip for cost reduction purpose. Does this mean that they have already done this to the PAL PS3? I have no clue. Sony did indicate that they will continually release patches to improve emulation of PS and PS2 games in the future. Even so, this is incredibly bad news for soon to be PAL PS3 owners.
