Sony finally responded to the news of ?gimped? PAL PS3s hitting Europe. In an interview with Three Speech blog, Sony confirmed that Emotion Engine synthesizer has been removed from PAL PS3, which is the reason why PS2 emulation will be limited on the PAL PS3s. When asked if this was to cut manufacturing cost, Sony responded with ?rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future, company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3, truly taking advantage of this exciting technology.?

Why not just say it was for cost cutting reasons? I mean several of Sony?s top executives have come out and said component reduction and/or combination would be implemented for cost reduction. I think it?s time to get PS3 if you are in Japan or North America before the gimpness spreads to these regions.
