Sony announces official PlayStation app for smartphones
No, your eyes do not deceive you; Sony Computer Entertainment is planning to launch an official PlayStation app for mobile devices very soon – possibly before Christmas.
Emmanuel Orssaud, Portal Manager of the EU PlayStation Blog, broke the news yesterday afternoon. The application will be free to download for iPhone and iPod Touch with OS 4 and above, and most Android-compatible handsets with a minimum of OS 1.6 installed. With it, you’ll be able to view PSN trophies, check out who’s online, read up on the latest games and hardware, access news on the EU PlayStation Blog, and share information with friends via Facebook and Twitter. Further functions will be introduced over time.
The bad news is that only citizens of the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and The Netherlands will get to enjoy these features. However, Orssaud does state that the later versions of the app will support additional territories and languages.
