Sony and Namco Bandai talks up Gundam Musou
During an insiders-only event in Tokyo, cofounder of Koei, Keiko Erikawa, made bolt prediction that Gundam Musou would sell two million copies worldwide. Erikawa said ?For us, Bandai’s Gundam is one million, and the Musou series is one million. We’d like to sell a total of two million copies.” The Musou game, set in Gundam universe, is set to be released in Japan next week. It is bit surprising to see Erikawa make such statement considering PS3 system or games have not seen particularly strong sales in Japan.
Kutaragi also believes the game will have strong showing. He commented on the progress of the ?second? generation games compared to that of launching titles. It seems that both Sony and Namco Bandai are banking on Gundam Musou to have strong showing in sales chart. Virtua Fighter 5 failed to make significant impression on the sales chart when it was released week ago. Sony is trying to challenge he sales chart, which have been dominated by Wii and DS titles. Musou games have generally seen strong following in Japan which should help the sales.
