Sony acquires developer of Socom
Game Informer reports that Sony’s long time partner Zipper Interactive, known for Socom: U.S Navy Seals franchise, has joined its forces with Sony’s newest game developing team called SCE Worldwide Studios.
Sony has also added Killzone franchise recently to their evergrowing portfolio. The exciting acquisitions over past few months will ultimately result in quality games for PS3 and its Playstation franchise for a long period of time.
The two companies have signed an exclusive development agreement in January 2006. Zipper’s day-to-day operations will continue to be run by the current management team and company founders in conjunction with SCE WWS Foster City Studio. Financial terms of this arrangement are not disclosed.
“Zipper Interactive is one of the most well-known and respected development teams in the industry and we have enjoyed a great working relationship with the company since July 1999,” said Phil Harrison, president, SCE Worldwide Studios. “Zipper’s tremendous achievements and expertise in creating top-selling games with fantastically loyal online communities is a great addition to our development organization. Hey PS3vault, im a big Sony fan and my favorite 2 games are Killzone And Socom 1,2, and 3. I really enjoy your website and i constently look at it everyday waiting for new updates that are true not like fake other websites. I recently heard a rumor of 4-7 million shipments of the ps3 being made and also the playstation 3 costing as much as 700$. I think that most of these rumors come from M$ fans but is sony still on track for a spring/summer release and will the US get the ps3 b4 2007?
So far the projected release date for PS3 will be 3rd quarter (Fall of 2006). If they miss this due date than they will lose significant market share as Nintendo Revolution will be launched around Thanksgiving. I doubt Sony will miss the train.
Thanks for posting!
