Satin Silver PStwo Slim announced
Shiva Stella from Gaming Horizon reports:
Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has announced that it's introducing a Satin Silver slim-line PlayStation 2 in Japan on November 23 at an "open" price.
The Satin Silver bundle will include a matching controller and vertical stand, while additional matching accessories (more controllers, memory cards) will be sold separately. The Satin Silver slim-line PS2 is the third color variation for the slim-line series.
We'll keep you updated if/when the bundle is scheduled to come stateside.
Now coming out with different colored "special editions" for a console is nothing new: Remember the solid gold N64 with Goldeneye (I still have mine), or your choice of Gamecube colored box? Sony appears to be pulling out all the stops with accessories to match. The vertical stand addition to me, however, seems like an "easy money" ploy. If you're buying a new PS2 you're obviously needing a memory card and second controller. But most people can live without the vertical stand.
What it does show, though, is that Sony is not abandoning their PS2 market to push a PS3 release. By continuing to release PS2 games up until PS3's launch, and coming out with console accessories and colors like this, they ensure that 360 will not cost them any more market share than absolutely necessary. Heartening news indeed.
I personally would like to see solid red and solid white colored PS2s.
