Rumour: PS2 dropping to $100 in April

Joystiq’s feelers on currently on the loose, and they’re currently rumouring that the PS2’s price tag is going to drop from $120 to $100 in April.

If this is true, it seems likely that this is the March 31 mystery announcement that Sony has planned for tomorrow. Well, it’s more likely than a PS3 price drop at this rate, anyway…

We’ll be letting you know first thing tomorrow.

How many of you fine PS3v readers still play your PS2s to this day?

  1. WOW – What pathetic news – as if anybody would pay $100 for a machine that is way out of date.
An extra $20 could get you a next gen console (360) or a DS or a PSP, all are miles better than a PS2.

Heeee – Big announcement from Sony coming this week – and then it turns out to be about the PS2 – what a pisser.!!!!!!

  2. @thedee51,
Nobody ever said this was the official announcement, besides, not everyone has a spare $400 dollars in their pocket to go out and buy a next-gen console when they could just as easily get an older one if that is all they need. Also, for people who weren’t able to get a backwards-compatible PS3, this is good news. I happen to own a BC unit, but if I didn’t, I would go out and buy a PS2 to play older games.

  3. Where you getting $400 from – read the post again numbty.

    And sorry, I don’t beleive you – you’d pay $100 to play a PS2 game – don’t think so.

  4. @thedee51,
Clearly you’ve displayed a surprisingly low inability to analyze anyone else’s perspective but your own. $400, is about the average price across all next-gen systems, since you clearly implied by your first comment that every can afford a plethora of extra features they don’t need when they could just get a PS2. Second of all, you don’t know my thought processes, I would pay a decent $100 to play, not one, but many PS2 favorites, if in said scenario.

  5. I think I agree with I.Q. for awhile I couldn’t buy a ps3 or xbox. I have a ps3 now, but if I couldn’t get I’d probally get a ps2 instead.
