Rumour: Cross-game Chat might be restricted to paid PSN subscribers?
While Xbox 360 owners have been enjoying the benefits of cross-game chat for years now, the functionality has yet to reach the PS3 community. To make matters worse, there’s even a chance we’ll have to pay for it when it (eventually) does.
Quoting from the latest PlayStation: The Official Magazine’s Next Tech section:
“Sony’s current service is one of the PS3’s best features, and so we’d begrudgingly welcome a revamped PSN with extra subscriber functionality, like cross-game chat and exclusive PSN downloads [...] cross-game chat is the obvious next big feature, even though it might be restricted to paid subscribers”.
The indefinite ‘might’ in that final sentence does offer us some comfort, but nevertheless we are saddened by the thought that this heavily-demanded feature could ultimately be introduced as part of a premium PSN package. Watch this space.

hi
well all i have to say about this is that its a good thing but i just think that its a little late xboxlive has astablish them self as the number one multileplayer chat servise it might cost a little but they have the games to back it up. now if sony can do the same then they miight have a chance.
I really hope it's not premium. PS3 being a free service was the only reason I bought the PS3 then the 360
As long as I can get free access to themes, PSOne classics, a discount from the store. and maybe some type of system that allows me to earn credit and get more downloads free. Then to me it would be worth it, as long as I'm not paying over $50 for one year of use.
Yeah this was part of a survey that went out a while back, good refresher though.
i think its cool as long as they dont make it cost more than live and they have some really cool perks that come along with it.
Cross-game chat has been spoken about a lot over the last few months, but this is the first I've heard about it costing any money... :(
To be honest, as much as I laugh at my Xbox friends (read: acquaintances) for having to pay for their online, if the premium service costs the same as Live, I'll pay it without question as long as it provides some decent features/benefits...
And this isn't new news, just to let you know, they mentioned this a couple of months back at least.
