Folks, we are saying this is a rumor because Sony has yet to confirm the detail inner workings of how the PS3 will handle features like online service in the application level.

Recently, Ps3portal.com reports that their trusted sources, who would like to remain anon, have told the website that PS3 will have Operating System (OS) running in the background just like Xbox 360. This OS will enable console owners to download content, updates, and able to chat with users across online. Furthermore, the website reports that PS3 will have plenty of power and resources to run games and have OS running in the background to support all the features available with the OS.

Below are more detail specification from PS3portal of what OS can offer:

- Custom Music in all games
- Simplifying development of Online games
- Seamless updating of games when the Xbox360 is connected to the Internet
- Voice Chat across all games, even outside of the games own UI
- Notifications and messaging to be sent between users regardless of the games they are playing

This will take up, “25% of the available Cores on the CPU and 18.75% of the available RAM in the system”.
