Region free PS3 has a catch

Jem Alexander, a new writer for Joystiq sister PS3 Fanboy and the owner of a US PS3 living in Europe, recently picked up a European copy of F.E.A.R. only to get a discouraging message: “This game not supported (80028F10).” You don’t need to be fluent in hexdecimal (and if not, why are you wearing those t-shirts, hm?) to feel confusion and resentment towards the supposedly region-free console.
The problem is much less sinister. North America and Japan use NTSC television standards, or 480i, while Europe uses PAL standards, or 576i. Hence, the US PS3 isn’t configured to handle the extra 96 lines of imaging. (You might remember a similar problem being noted with European Genesis releases for the Wii Virtual Console.) The solution is simple but costly: all PS3 titles support 720p, so buy an HDTV set.

you need a hd tv, it wont work on a normal tv, if you use hd tv it should work
Is that all? oky thats cul, so we got one of those so my problem is settled. . . Cuz i got mine in america and i live in SA. So the zones make no diffrence at all??
hey this may be off topic but i have a question, i wanna buy a japanese ps2 game but im american, and therefore will want to play all my other games as well on the ps3, is there a ps3 that will allow me to play both American and Japanese ps2 games at least
iv got a ps3 and a hdtv, iv just bought a blue ray dvd from america and it doesnt play, it says “Mismatch between disc and player region codes.” if its region free why am i having this problem?
Azza, the games are region free but I don’t believe Blu Ray discs are.
let me clear this up
ps3 games =region free
ps2 and ps1 =not region free
blueray movies =not region free
