UPDATED: PSN experiences blackout
For the past couple hours, Sony’s PlayStation Network has been bombarding users with ‘8001050F’ error codes. This error not only locks users out of the PSN, but it also corrupts trophy data and paid DLC content. These things, when combined, cause certain games to lock up.
It sounds like the PSN outages are only part of the problem however. PS3s that have not connected to the internet for years are reverting their clocks to 12/31/1999 for some reason. This is causing games like example Heavy Rain and Demon’s Souls to not run - regardless of whether or not they normally require a PSN connection to function.
Sony has sent a message to all through Twitter by way of acknowledging the situation: “we’re aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we’re looking into it. Stay tuned for updates.”
We will provide updates as the problem is diagnosed and rectified.

I support Sony regardless of what has happened, but what whatever the reason for this “blackout” Sony better be ready, willing and able to give back to the playstation community after all of this is over.
Looks like only early adopters who paid $500-$600 for their PS3s are affected. Odd it’s a Y2K-type of problem — and why in the world can’t manually resetting the clock work?
My ps3 comes up with ‘Registration of the trophy information could not be completed. The game will quit (8001050F)

Apparently the only models to be affected by the y-2-k blackout bug, are the older Ps3 models. All slim models are currently able to connect to the Playstation Network with no problem. I also noticed any older Psn games will work on the y2k’ed systems like flOw and demos. Ps3 discs, or newer Playstation store titles will not work. Also a forewarning to anyone considering system restoring, back up any of your saved files before doing so.

Every older Ps3 model is being affected right now, whether it was connected to the internet or not. The situation isn’t localized either, with reports coming in from Europe and Canada also having the same issue

well now my whole system hard disk is corupted and its being restored to orginal setting sony you really fucked up this time
My whole system has crashed. I can’t play any games whatsoever, new or old. Over the past week, my PS3, older model locked up several times. It started in Little Big Planet, when I was unable to join friends. But this morning….nothing.
I don’t have Twitter, hopefully Sony will send newsletters.
My PS3 wont even turn on wtf.. As if it totally Died. This will be 3 in 5 PS3’s fat one’s in my house that is 2 dead and 1 stop reading disk. Luckily the other 2 are safe and 1 did connect for about 30 minutes last night around 12:30 est.
Hopefyly this isn’t a gimmick to get the owners of the fat PS3’s to by the slims!!!

Sony has officially had 17 hours and counting to fix the “blackout” bug and still nothing. Im starting to lose my faith in Sony.
Ive heard that some ps3 slims are down too.
Different things are being said by different sites. Our advice would be to refrain from turning your system on for the time being. It sucks, we know, but better go without gaming for a while than risk corrupting the console…
I won’t be turning mine on, that’s for sure.

I find it funny that a lot of people are cussing, yelling and just all over being mad at Sony (and expecting that to help in any way what so ever). I know I will get flamed and probably yelled at too, but maybe you should just take a break from your PS3, go outside, read a book or go hang out with your real life friends …. just a suggestion!

ive heard updates on the fact and the situation is that the slim are working and all the trophies are fine as long as you dont fuck with the ps3 leave it alone turining it on makes the situation worse go back to the ps2 just for today my sources say that they will work tomorrow
Yeah, Sony has said that they’ve “narrowed down the issue and have engineers working to restore service”, yet they can’t (or won’t) tell anyone what the problem is… I’d put money on it that they’re just waiting to see if the problem fixes itself tomorrow – wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.

We both have the original silver face Playstation 3’s.
As of yet I hav’nt turned my system on, let’s hope the chaps at SONY get their shit together or a pretty big joint ps3 members case will cost them the company.
