PSN Accounts Holders – We Are Legion

Figures released today by VentureBeat show that there are now some 20 million PSN accounts worldwide. That’s a lot of people kicking my ass at SFIV!

As a comparison, the previous figures for January ‘09 were 17 million. VentureBeat’s data also shows that 4 million of those account holders also use PS Home (doesn’t say how often though…). In other stat-related news there are apparently 14,500 items on offer on the PSN, which collectively have been downloaded 380 million times. What does that mean in real terms? About USD 180 million in cold, hard cash.

The press release indicates that nearly all PS3 owners have a PSN account. So if you’re reading this, I’m guessing you have too. Welcome to the family.

FACT – that figure includes PS2 user accounts and PSP user accounts – so its not as if there are 17 million PS3 users – as there isnt!!!!

But you’d think with obviously a lot of people using the Playstation store, they would make it more user friendly and easier to find things – it does not compare whatsoever with the excellent Xbox Live Marketplace!!!
Thats what you get for things that are free I suppose – a shoddy service!!

Ummm there is nothing on the PSN store for PS2. So I don’t know how many people with just a PS2 have accounts. PSP has some thing but not as many as PS3. Plus tons on free demos and FREE online play.
What can’t you find on the store. It’s pretty straight forward.

20 million registrations? That would assume that basically,… 99% of PS3 / PSN owners registered on the PSN.

That’s impossible, for many reasons too complex to get into, which included internet access ratio of console owners, and foreign accounts.

On the topic of Blu-ray, Loads of people buy them, more people than bought your precious Microsoft’s HD-DVD. WHich is why HD-DVD lost the format war. I personally have about 30 of them, and didn’t pay a dime over 20$ each. Which, if you remember, when DVDs came out, they sold for roughly 30$ at first.
Mercenaries 2 has better graphics on PS3 than 360. But that’s irrelevant. What you need to look at is PS3 exclusives versus 360 exclusives. Compare MGS4 or Killzone 2 to Gears 2. Lulz. Also, you have to think… The PS3 is only three years old, vs the Xbox’s 4 years. The xbox coding is similar to older systems and PC, so in those four years they have basically topped off the 360s graphics ability. The PS3 has taken some time to learn, because it is completely different. and in this time, the graphics are almost always equivalent or better than the 360s. Think of when companies get better at the PS3 coding.

I don’t know about sound. I’m not really an audiophile, so they sound the same to me.
