If you don?t use the official cables released by Sony or officially licensed cables, Sony will void the warranty on your system. This came to light when a user at AVS forums called in for technical support. With broken PS3, he told Sony tech he used generic HDMI cable. The tech promptly told him the warranty was void and that it would cost him $150.00 to fix the PS3. Luckily for the owner, Target exchanged his broken PS3 unit for free.
