PS3 - The meat between the Sandwich
How do we prevent Ps3 from becoming the meat between the sandwich in the ongoing console wars. Latest sales trends indicate that Wii and Xbox360 will at a proportionate rate keep outselling Ps3, at least in the near future.
Constant information that is either leaked or strategically placed thru Nintendo and Microsoft eludes to the fact that the consoles wars are just starting to heat up through the 3 big boys. The Peak quarter for Sales coming up will see an avalanche of Games bundles , accessory inclusions and if we believe all the hype , yes we will see a reduction in pricing, across the consoles.
The danger to Ps3 is that it will become lost amongst the other console units over the busy sales quarter, we have just started to see increases at a proportional rate in the Ps3 and hopefully Sony will ramp up its promotion and incentives over the coming months.
Peak indicators show that retail sales across the Oct/Nov/Dec period should have a natural increase of around 7% on 2006, this will hopefully transform across to PS3

According to my opinion it is a very “flat” article. The core of it is “ps3 is outsold currently”. Where? In the USA? But it sells prety good worldwide. Much better then its main competitor XBox 360.
Currently MS has no clear plan of the further evolution of its console. It rushes and hits the corners having only a few AAA games and most of them are simply overrated. While Sony counts on simulatious evolution of PSN, PS3 and PSP and has clear plan of their further development, MS stakes on only one game - Halo 3. Sure it is overhyped but more players expect more they will be disappointed. It is a strategic mistake. Actually MS HAS NO REPLACMENT FOR HALO 3 is case of its failure.
God the Wii, probably the babiest toy I have ever seen.. it sold fast for one reason and one reason only… its CHEEEEEEEEP!!!! So if you want to trade my blowing gaming for a cheepy console?… go right ahead.

Seriously, all these are good exclusive games before Christmas time. Then add in an even stronger selection in Q1/H1 of 2008, where the other two consoles are relatively empty, I think PS3 is gonna do just fine.
Just need to drop the 80GB to $499 and then rely on all the new exclusive games to sell for the U.S., where it is still a bit behind the 360.

i have a 360 and ps3 and i agree with seeton…the wii ONLY sales good because it’s cheap as hell…it doesnt take a genius to figure that out ..of course people are gonna buy a cheap gaming console..and yes PS3 is destroying sales in europe and other countries…360 is the dieing console over there according to sales…360 is a ok system just too many freakin FPS and after halo 3 and mass effect 360 has nothing…i’ll stick with my PS3
I agree with the sales being the reason the Wii’s sold well. And I would love to see the PS3 dominate over the 360. But come on the lack of original fun games in most of the other consoles is ridiculous, FPS and Sports run rampant on the 360, plus half of them you can get for PC anyway. I remember when XBOX first started Bill G wanted to take over the console market cause he was mad that they were taking such a big chunk from the PC gaming world. He added he wanted to make consoles like PCs, yeah for add-ons.
Sony got a little big headed but they have a good system and they hit the middle ground for common games and creative games good for everyone.
But I have to say Nintendo has always delivered for fun addictive games, but they really have to lighten up in a few places like Online and M games.
Agreed, I own a X360, my bro a PS3 and the reason neither of us bought a Wii is well, because it’s got no decent games, I prefer button mashing than stick waggling and it’s just so annoying and way too imprecise to play with!
Gimme my MGS4, Mass Effect, GT5 and Halo 3 please… I need internet multiplayer and well, gotta put my HD TV to use too!
I agree that the wii is selling very well because it’s very CHEAAAP .. actually i dont consider it a compititor…

I am currently torn between investing in either a ps3 or a 360 and any (unbiased) advise would be appreciated especially from those who own both. As i dislike microsofts apparent superior business/inferior design I would like to go Sony, the only worry i have is that the 360 has such excellent company support. My question is this: Will it be cost effective for sony to be in this for the long haul? I would hate to spend so much money on a product that will be ignored by developer heavyweights further down the line.
Also, while i agree that the wii sells mainly due to price it also seems like a good choice for the casual party gamer (not me) and one must appreciate the risks Nintendo takes to push forward new ways of gaming interaction.

Obviously it is a good thing to be cheap, i believe people are merely theorising about the wiis success. BTW why do you feel scorned and dissapointed with the ps3? I am not disagreeing with you or anything it’s just that i’m looking into getting a ps3 and i don’t want to make the wrong decision.

Chill bro, I do agree with much of what you say but how are we supposed to make an informed opinion about what to buy if we are un-informed? The whole war thing IS bullshit and like any war has buckets of propaganda bollocks but i wanna know all i can about the pros and cons before i buy because i quite simply can’t afford more than one system. My comments on the Wii was mainly because of frustration, before all this crap I was proud of nintendo for staying in the game in their own way… they knew they could not compete head on with Sony and Microsoft so they went a different way and I take my hats off to them for that. What really pisses me off is when stupid people see higher sales numbers and automatically assume ” well then obviously its a better console in every way..” I mean my own cousin came up to me and said…” why did you buy the PS3 instead of the Wii… isnt it better? ” So i said ” for my needs no… its not… im a slightly more serious gamer… why do you think its better?” and he said ” well… cause everyone has one.” ….. WHAT THE HELL? Thats when I got disappointed… if nintendo want to go down as the company that actually fooled people into thinking that their console was superior to all others then so be it… but I think people will start coming around…. I believe nintendo has reached a market of people that would have never before tried gaming in any way… and I thank them because if weed is the gate way drug then the Wii is the gateway console.. what I mean by that is I believe that the people who buy the Wii will one day want a little something more to their games.. be it depth of graphics etc.. and will then buy a better more grown up console. So thanks Nintendo because of you we will have more 360 and Ps3 owners.. YEEEHAAAA.

I don’t think Nintendo are trying to “fool” anyone. The wii appeals to a wide range of people for many reasons, obviously price but also due to the fact that a hardened veteran of the standard controller doesn’t have such a massive advantage against a new comer while using the wiimote or whatever it’s called. Now anyone can play as they say. While the consoles develop so to should the method of control. I’m not convinced the wiimote thing is the next step up from the old playstation/xbox control but at least they’re trying something different and i’m glad it’s paying off.
Dude you missed my point, I agree with you there.. im glad its paying off for them as well.. but its by no means better than the PS3 or the 360.. its just different. Its like comparing a 3 bedroom house to a orbiting space station.

It was geting outsold by the 360 in every region except japan, NPD and vgchartz numbers support this, And japan? its not suprising.
Whats funny is how pundits claim the 360 is dead in japan, Dead is defined as not moviing without life…ect If we go by this defition then 360 is alive with 2000 sales weekly, Is it as alive as the other 2? nope but its still alive, and its selling at a higher rate then the original xbox did at launch and after.

(now I do not want to get into a Xbox 360 vs Ps3 Discussion here) What amazes me is the absolute threat the Ps3 poses to you 360 fans even tho ” its doing so badly” and its a year behind.. let me remind you how many days there are in a year… thats 365 days behind the 360….. now if the Ps3 was beating the Xbox already with that lead then you guys would have a pretty crap console on your hands… turns out the 360 is not crap… its actually quite an awesome machine… the ” race ” is much closer this time and we will only see accurate results in like 4 to 5 years maybe at who is doing the best. The original Xbox was crap lets face it thats why it was demolished by the ps2, the 360 is a much better competitor and will do a lot better. My personal opinion is that the PS3 will come out on top again for many reason but one being Blueray… its shear disk space for future games is a massive advantage and thats what im in it for.. the games.
There are only a few true exclusives coming to the 360 (meaning it won’t be coming to other consoles or the PC), which are Halo 3, Mass Effect, Fable 2, and the new Ace Combat. The weakest thing about the 360 is the lack of quality RPG titles on its Xbox and 360 titles, which was the main reason I didn’t go for it. I think a price drop plus the new games with a better steady campaign will be all thats needed for Blu Ray and PS3 games to fuel the PS3 sales.
Sony should team up with Apple to go against Microsoft. Apple has the creative and marketing edge, which is something Sony needs help with.
