PS3 Slim Announced and Pictured: Is Ugly
The PS3 Slim has finally been officially announced by Kaz Hirai at GamesCom, together with a price cut for the existing PS3. As you can see above, it's sinfully ugly. It doesn't even have the awesome touch-sensitive buttons anymore, and it's managed to get ugly, black lettering. It looks generally tacky and cheap.
However, it's got a 120gb hard drive, it's 32% smaller, 36% lighter and has 34% less power consumption. It's certainly not all bad news - it's cheaper too.
It's supposed to be 299 Euros, $299 and 30,000 yen. The original PS3 will drop to that price tomorrow. We don't know what the price is going to be in the UK (£s), but you can bet at either £200 (less likely) or £250/260 (more likely). You can see images of the Slim here.

pointless, every one who wants a ps3 has one. the only potential coustomers are collecters and geeks who won the lottery
I have a 320gb hardrive in my PS3 and I've ran out of room 4 times.
Horrible ...Not feelin it at all , cmon Sony ...yall can do better than that ..ill stick with my 1st gen i love my shiny ps3 , still cant understand who needs all that hard drive space anyway..anyways going go play some madden 10 . pz.
I completely disagree. I have always hated my PS3's glossy piano black finish. A super matte black is awesome! And I love the new physical buttons instead of touch sensitive ones. So I love the new look. I also like that there is no silver and that the logo is black. Though I still wish the slot loading was not indented still. I wish it was flush with the front so it would line up with the rest of my AV stuff. I also wish they could have not made it a half inch deeper.
Yeah I agree, I would'nt swap or trade my big glossy 160gb for nothing. I happen to like how the big machines looks. But if Sony can lower the price and sell more product with the slim then good for them.
well, i'm severely unimpressed...and relieved - I didnt want to buy a new one.
I can see the purpose from a business sense - make it from cheaper materials, so it can be sold at a cheaper price point, and make it a bit thinner as manufacturing has advanced.
However, whereas i'm sure PS2 phat owners were no doubt envious of thier PS2 slim owning friends, I suspect I will pity my friends who have to make do with this fisherprice version of the sexy lump of machine that is the orginal chrome edged PS3.
In fact, this is more akin to the change made to the PSP - I have the original Phat, and whilst the screen is certainly better on the PSP slim, its only slightly slimmer and its made of nasty cheap plastic - hence I never upgraded. These are changes made for the company, not for the consumer.
top looks like the top of a car dashboard speckled plastic
and as a whole it looks like a free view box (uk) or a cable tv box

To be fair, I've seen uglier images. Let's not be too harsh about the new design... it certainly isn't 'sinful'.
hmm looks better than on the leaked pics at least... looked way to flat on those...
i actually don't really dislike the new look. but i've got an "old" ps3 anyway so it really isn't important for me :)
