PS3 Price announcement not accurate
We knew this was gonna happen again. Basically, trying to get an idea of how much PS3 will cost to consumer right now is very difficult. We are sure that Sony will announce the pricing scheme either during the upcoming E3 or post E3 announcements as the launch date draws near. Education presumptions of price varies so greatly(400 – 1000) that it is really more like a throwing a dice at a crap table. What happened was the person who was interviewing Sony Europe asked the question by throwing the price $500 on PS3 and when the executive responded with explanation followed by examples, media took that as price hint. Jeez, we are guessing that people are running out of hot PS3 news therefore, they would have to come up with marketing ploy that get some attention.
Here is the scoop from FiringSquad:
Next Generation is reporting that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is calling reports of a 500 euro price point for the PS3 a “misinterpretation” of what was said during a French radio interview with Sony exec George Fornay. Here is a snip with a quote from Sony spokesperson Nick Sharples:
“At no point did he ever refer to a specific price for [the PS3]. He was referring to a 500 dollar price that the interviewer had questioned to him, explaining the relative value of the PS3 console in relation to Blu-ray disc players on the high-end and consoles on the low-end,” Sharples said.

What I have come to understand about the PS3 price is that Sony plans to take a loss on each unit the first year. They should sell for around $450-500 even though the actual cost to make them is $600. The same thing happened with the PS2. They took a loss the first year and make it back and much more later. Now it’s the best selling console out there.
