PS3 Movie Download Service Announced
Coming as a surprise to, well, no-one at all really Sony have announced the rollout of their movie download service via the PSN.
The news comes from everyone’s favourite head honcho Kaz Hirai who revealed that the download service will be launched in the US this summer. Europe and Japan will have to wait a bit longer it seems. A full announcement is coming in the next month or so. What with a certain, rather well-known, games conference taking place shortly we could expect some more details to be released then.
Sony is planning to get SCE back in the black by the end of the financial year which for them is March 2009. Increased network infrastructure coupled with hardware production savings and online services such as movie downloads should help them on their way.
Let’s hope they don’t put any silly viewing restrictions in the shiny new service…

i cant wait for this, YAY, no more going out to get DVDs
They need to create a integrated service with Blockbuster online and say for an additional monthly amount allow downloads from blockbuster. This would compete with netflix and potentially be great for both companies. It would also be another reason to actually use the web browser on the ps3.
