PS3 Massive Action Game (MAG) Details and First Screenshot
One of the biggest and baddest games to be announced at E3 was Massive Action Game aka MAG in which up to 256 players, teamed up in squads of 8, can battle each other. Clearly designed for online play, MAG has some gamers concerned that the quality of the game will have to suffer in order to allow for so many simultaneous players. The good people at Sony have tried to quell those fears (from the PlayStation blog):
“Though it’s early to talk in depth about MAG, we can definitely quell some fears we’ve already heard from you about how MAG will need to compromise on gameplay to support its size. Well, it may be massive but it is an action shooter at its core. You can run around and shoot enemies, throw grenades, and drive vehicles just like any other shooter except with MAG you’ll do it with up to 256 players. The team at Zipper was one of the pioneers of online gaming on consoles with the SOCOM franchise and they’ve used this knowledge to create a brand new server architecture to make an original game like MAG possible.”
Only time will tell if they are able to deliver but in the meantime, drool over this screenshot at stay tuned for future details.

If Sony can f### up an online expansion pack for Metal Gear then I have absolutely no faith that they can get 250 people playing online.
Sony - don’t take the piss. Get other things sorted first you muppets!!
That incident was Konami’s fault, nothing to do with Sony.
Hey Thedee51,
You’re either drunk or an idiot. WTF does Sony have to do with a 3rd party’s mess? Give it up Xbot…
lol - I own a PS3 you retard!
And with the shitty excuse for a presentation at E3, I am getting slightly annoyed with the super power that is Sony!!
10 minutes talking about PS2 WTF !!!!
Wonder if they talked about the Snes at the Nintendo conference or the Xbox at 360’s conference???
Thedee: The difference is that Sony is still making a large amount of money out the PS2, a system still very much used in people’s homes.
MAG certainly seems like an ambitious title, and there are obviouly plenty of valid concerns to take into consideration; like lag issues, but the company is obviously going to be keeping an eye on the issue and finding ways to resolve it.
Here’s hoping it turns out as well as its ambition.
Well, the title of this game certainly isnt intriguing, honestly to me, but from what I’ve read….this game might be a hit! I’m anticipating it!
and Thedee51 or whatever…what these guys are saying, is that Sony has nothing, really, to do with the MGO ß, with it being (MGO) published by Konami - NOT Sony. Sony is a first-party company (in this situation) and Konami is third-party. So, Sony cannot be to blame for the MGO ß’s expansion, or whatever you’re talking about.
(cont.)….Sony can only (well for the most part) be to blame for hardware issues and issues with first-party material - from SONY. Its illogical and wrong, and probably illegal to blame one company for problems with another…so the moral is…:dont blame a first-party company for problems with a third-party company.
