PS3 In Game XMB Finally Here?
Diehard PS3 fans have been waiting for in game XMB longer than Hollywood has been waiting for Lindsay Lohan to make a good movie. Well, don’t hold your breath on the movie bit but a number of sites are reporting that In Game XMB may be coming June 10 as part of Firmware Upgrade 2.4.
As has been widely reported, Firmware 2.4 will include a trophy system. And Sony already has a game, PixelJunk Eden on the way which will utilize this system. As part of In Game XMB, PS3 users will have a universal friends list, personal soundtracks and possibly better audio and video communication.
According to insiders, Sony is currently running through the entire PS3 library to determine compatibility with all existing titles. Those who should know don’t think there will be a problem but Sony wants to make sure. Also, as exciting as custom user music (imagine playing Linkin Park while fragging some idiot in COD4) is, it won’t automatically be available. It will be part of the software kit available to developers going forward so, unless games are patched, it won’t be available for a while yet. The same applies to the new trophy system.
Finally, it appears that the latest firmware update will be released June 10th, two days prior to the release of a little known game, Metal Gear Solid 4. Hopefully the update won’t get lost in the ensuing excitement.
Stay tuned for further details.

Hopefully they’ll fix the mp4 streaming bug finally.
I hope that it will allow one to send buddys messages from games…
There is a TON of hype about this. More so than any other firmware release yet. If it IS in fact containing in-game XMB, then this could be amazing for the PS3. However, some say that there will be bugs and such because of the many different titles coded before its release… but Sony has held off on releasing it so far… so I’m sure the majority of the problems have been dealt with.
yay igxmb!
