PS3 Development Equals Better 360 Game
For a while we’ve heard how developing for the Playstation 3 is like taking final exams…every day! This has caused many developers to take titles that were once exclusive to the PS3 and port them over to the XBox 360 such as Assassin’s Creed. However, some developers believe the opposite, saying that having a game developed on the PS3 originally makes for a better game when it comes to the 360 whereas had it been developed on the 360 first, the opposite would not be true.
Nick Channon, Senior Producer for Burnout Paradise explains how setting the PlayStation 3 as the lead platform over the Xbox 360, actually makes the Xbox 360 version a better game. “From our point of view, we’ve had no issues with dealing with either machine; that’s what I mean by that. It seems that some games haven’t always transitioned between the two well. From our perspective leading on Playstation3 has meant Xbox 360 has given us a great product.”
Given that the PS3 is the more powerful console (duh!), it can be seen as pushing the development of the 360 version to be even better than it would have been. This leads to questions such as how would Gears of War turned out if it were developed as a PS3 game rather than a Xbox 360 exclusive title? We’ll see as Unreal Tournamnet III will be better visually than Gears of War and the PS3 is the lead project on that title.
