PS3 Cell Processor Is Very Powerful

The PS3 as you all know has a very powerful but complicated CPU. The decision to use a CPU was at first frowned upon because of how hard it is to program games. But that decision seems to be paying off now with developers finally figuring out this advanced hardware that makes games like Uncharted 2 possible. The PS3's Cell Processor/GPU combo gives it the power to process more than 2.0 trillion floating point operations per second (FLOPS) compared to the Xbox 360’s 355 Billion FLOPS. The recent release of Saboteur shows off how much better the PS3 can smooth edges in games over the Xbox 360. And most developers have said that they have just tapped into the power of the PS3 and say there is a lot more that it has to offer. The hope is to see more developers use the power of the PS3 and make more beautiful games.

This is very true. I'm a software developer myself, and we use servers with IBM Cell processors for large scale mathematical computation. The Cell processor is very powerful as long as it the software is optimized for it correctly. Optimizing software for the cell processor, however, can be very difficult, especially if you're porting software and not writing it from scratch.

That is the first time I have ever heard the PS3 be called "humble" Lyn May, but I do agree with you.

David, would you mind explaining your comment because it just seems like a waste of space at the moment.

ArrionShadow, Chris, guys come on. Let's not be naive. Ever purchased a brand new shiny LCD/Plasma from your favorite electronics store? This brightness is due to if you walk into a store and see twenty tv's side by side and are deciding on which one to buy, your eyes automatically jump to the display with the brightest picture. TV makers know this and jack up the brightness and contrast so that they are the biggest brightest display on the wall. And, guys like you fall for it and buy the damn thing. When you get that shiny new TV home, you're going to want to turn the brightness and contrast down to something a little more natural. You won't want to use the "store's" settings in your home. The picture will look like crap.

So, if you like your pictures to be washed out and unnaturally sharp, then stick the the overcompensating 360; I for one will stick with the beautiful and humble PS3.

I hope that the so called untapped potential doesn't outlive PS3 itself. Well, actually it doesn't matter, I like what I see in PS3, but I like the fact that there's still a possibility for better visuals and better gameplay too. Possibility for better gameplay is rarely mentioned though, I think it should be.

hmm nice that it can smooth better than the x360. but the lighting really looks better on the 360... I guess it's the RSX-Graphics Chip in the PS3, which is weaker than the GPU of the 360.
But UC2 showes that nice saturated colors are possible on the PS3 aswell! Developers just don't give a shit it seems....

Those two pictures don't really impress me I mean yeah Its smoother but the lighting on the 360 looks alot better You can see the skin complextion better in the eyes, Whats causing that? I don't get it. Xbox Looks better in those pics But Ps3 is indeed smoother
