PS3 “Break-apart” Motion Controller Details
There were rumours some time ago about Sony looking into a controller that would break apart (in a good way). Seem this has become more solid with the release of patent information on a design for a controller that can sense motion…and have click on parts
The news comes from a patent filed by Sony that would theoretically create a handset that could have additional sections clicked-on to it. A bit like Lego, but on steroids. Detail fans among you might want to check out the full patent filing. Knock yourselves out.
There are also some diagrams (and here as well) too if you’re a pictures person. There is a clear link shown between the motion sensing technology and the Playstation Eye. You can click two controllers together, swap out the button configuration pads and generally turn it into a comedy dumbell. Here comes the science: it apparently uses a combination of hybrid motion capture, wifi and ultrasonic technologies to track three dimensional movement. One to one motion sensing for Soul Caliber V maybe? If there’s an axe head click-on for Asteroth – I’m in.

That’s WEIRD. I honestly think it seems all a bit gimmicky… Sony better get this nailed, or they’re gonna be the laughing stock of gamers for a while to come.
Hmmm I love my PS3 just as it is and really dont want to see it become anything remotel close to the piece of shit Wii. I was a die hard Nintendo fan for many years. But lets face it nintendo hasnt put out a good console since the SNES. The Wii controlers are just a cheap gimmic for a crap console with even crappier games. All these limmings buy it cause its the cheap in system sad. People need to think for themselves not be such lemmings. well off my soap box flame away.

I agree, however one thing you have to remember is that, (as far as game hardware goes) SONY is the only company that knows what they’re doing when developing gaming hardware. Their focus has always been to satisfy the customer, not to make a quick, cheap dollor like Microsoft.
The wii is just a rip off if a japanese console called the vii and that controller is just a rip-off of the wii-mote and it looks kinda ugly aswell… i hope this doesnt get released lol
