PS2 Classics planned for the PSN
Peter Dille, Sony's senior Marketing VP and Manager of the PlayStation Network, has explained during a recent interview with IGN that PlayStation 2 Classics may finally make an appearance on the PlayStation Store, which is fantastic news given plans to roll-out backwards compatibility to non-60GB PlayStation 3s have died a tragic death.
Dille’s words were:
"We're working really hard on it. We're pushing the third-party community and evangelizing this as a terrific opportunity both commercially as well as from a brand perspective to keep people interested in some of these older IPs [...] From our side, we’re going through our own studio organization and trying to make sure all these old games are out there so that we can lead by example, but we’re also communicating with all the third-parties about the success of the Final Fantasy games, and other PS1 and PS2 classics."
As much as gaming has evolved and improved tremendously over the last few years, there's no denying that the PlayStation 2 software catalogue consisted of some absolute marvels: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, SSX 3, TimeSplitters: Future Perfect, Black, Devil May Cry 3... the list goes on and on.
While we appreciate Dille's comments are by no means official confirmation, this news already has us reliving our fondest PlayStation 2 gaming moments in 720p.

I would love it if any form of 'Most Wanted' came to the PS3. Price is not a matter. I hope Sony is reading this bcoz I'm not the only one. Please Sony.
true SSX will be fantastic in HD but not being disrespectable more ppl will be expecting FFX and GTA san andreas
SSX in HD FTW! That would be awesome!
I can only dream of playing SSX3 in HD.
Bring on SSX!!!!!
Nice!! i had to pull my PS2 out after my PS3 died. it been like a month now, i just got over the cold sweats and the shivers. if it wasn't for my PS2 i dont what i would have done! I plan on getting a new Slim this month. PS3 just keeps getting better and better!
that's cool. I'd get to play lots of RPGs at last!!
the good thing is, I won't feel robbed either because I didn't own many PS2 games anyway :) nice!
Agreed LYOD My 60G Stopped reading disk and I am not about to send it out to get fixed for $125 when i am seeing PS3's non slims going on Craigslist for $150. But to get an 80G, 60G or 20G with Backwards compatibility is very rare indeed. Anyhow all my PS2 Games would of been useless if not for my 2 old ps2's that i have stored. But then again when was the last time i picked up a ps2 title and actually played a game???
That's good because a few weeks ago my $600 classic 60GB PS3 broke. I was extremely pissed off, I would almost have to get rid of my 60 (literally) PS2 games if I still didn't have PS2's stored in the depths of my basement, good to hear this though. I would like it if some type of program got released to make it read PS2 discs.
