PlayStation 4 Rumoured for Next Year in Japan

Our inside sources at Sony have Confirmed (via email) the follow up to the PS3 is in the works which, in itself, isn’t too surprising. However, the real shock is that the PS4 will be release in the first half of Sony’s 2010-2011 fiscal year (if you’re Japanese, anyway). Said the first of our sources (who wishes to remAin anonymous, for obvious reasons):
“They’re definitely working on the PS4. There was a small meeting about it, saying that it would be using a newly developed chipset, codenamed ‘Spiral Rift’, alongside Cell 2, neither of which they explained in any more detail. It will release in fiscal year 2010-2011.”
Our second source (we assume neither source Knew the other would be giving us a leak) went into more detail about the date;
“The PS4 will release in the first half of Sony’s fiscal year starting 2010, using both brand new technology and advancements on the Cell engine. They did not mention backwards compatability.”
So there you have it. Sony are working on thE PS4 and it’s releasing much earlier than you could have ever expected. This begs to question what will happen to the PS3 – will it fade out with it’s follow-up releasing so soon or will it continue going strongly like the PS2? Only time will tell.

im calling bullshit a 10 year life cycle and then they say this? sony has had a 10 yhear cycle with the ps2 they’ll do the same with the ps3.
the ps3 isn’t even a reasonably priced console for consumers yet never mind sony. they wont release a new console till they at least break even on this one (which will take some time since they lost about $200 each console on the relase models) and supposedly ff13 will use 100% of the ps3s power also bullshit. thats simply bad coding they can deffiknatly make a more efficient coding system that would squeez more out of the ps3. if that was true the 360 wouldn’t be able to run it (saw ff13 sccreens today for the 360 version they look gorgeouse)
i remember last years big joke was a huge group of usually reliable sites “confirmed” ff7 remake,i hadn’t played ff7 yet so i wasn’t bothered but aalot of people were immensly pissed off.
i’m actually playing through it as of now since i finally had a playstation memory card in the form of a ps3 i bought last month. (i got a ps2 about 5 years into the cycle so finding a usuable memory card wasn’t really possible for me)

it doesn’t mean.. hey we won’t release another console for the next 10 years..
It means, we are supporting this product heavily for the next 10 years, and it will be sufficient for most for that time..
PS2 was a 10 year product, I say it’s keeping it’s promise, no?
