PlayStation 3 vs. Nintendo Wii
I started to write this due to an explosive anger that occured within myself when I watched the PlayStation 3 vs. Wii parody video the other day.
It isn’t that I haven’t seen it before, it is that a lot of Wii owners or those against our lovely console, seem to be using this as ‘evidence’, which is monumentally stupid. Don’t get me wrong, the Wii isn’t bad, it is rather good. It is “cheap” (so the video says) and fun, but I do not see it as part of the professional gaming market. I see it as more of a party thing. Yet again, I must reiterate and stress that this isn’t a bad thing, it is merely a difference in market and target audience.
Case in point, my mum would buy the Wii for parties or when family/friends come over (most notably Christmas); whereas me or my friends have (or want) a PlayStation 3 for ‘real‘ gaming. To me, that means high power, great graphics (HD) and as many features as Sony can pack into it.
I wouldn’t mind a Wii either, but for a totally different reason. Essentially the Wii is a repackaged Game Cube, and that is fine, that is what works for Nintendo.
I could continue to rant on about how the PlayStation 3 is the better of all consoles (after all we get the online service, hard drive and HD format built in, whereas Xbox have to buy every little thing seperate, thus debunking the rubbish they fill us such as ‘Xbox is cheaper’. Well after you have spent all the ‘extras’ it isn’t. These ‘extras’ are standard in PlayStation 3).
I think I should stop here before I induce a riot, but it is definately worth thinking about. I’m not the first to notice that PS3 and Wii actually have two different target audiences. But why the hell are people (including this video) comparing them as though they are on the same level? Of course the PS3 is more costly, power costs and so does ‘real’ gaming.

Perhaps the author should do some research into the Gameboy/Lynx war. It’s happening again.
Furthermore - I find it amusing to call the PS3 a Porche - perhaps it is with the distinction of having it’s engine governed at 5000rpm and it’s gas line bottlenecked so that the enormous tank can only provide a trickle of fuel.
A disabled Porche at best.
The Wii does “real” gaming. Just sadly not much of it.

I couldnt agree more with what you said about it being a party machine. My friend has a wii and we play it when theres a bunch of us together but he very rarely plays it on his own, theres only a few real dense games and those games you get bored of after like 30 mins because of all the flailing of the arms and stamping of the feet. The PS3 is a hardcore console, people who love gaming buy a PS3, so in that respect the PS3 never really lost many sales to the wii it just didnt gain as many, and if your a casual gamer or just like paying to go online with REALLY anoying people then you buy a doorstop, Oh sorry i meant xbox360.
Michael, you are right - they are two completely different consoles, aimed at two separate markets, and therefore almost impossible to compare.
It’s like comparing David Beckham to Van Der Sar (both good players, but you cannot compare them with each other as one is a midfielder, the other a goalkeeper.)
Great video, Wii is cheap, fun and sexy. Can’t argue with those facts. LOL. (P.S. I’m a PS3 owner who loves PS3, but think a little bit of competition is healthy… thanks to the Wii I get to appreciate what a proper multimedia console SHOULD be like)

I wasn’t trying to compare them as such either, that was my point. They can’t be compared, yet the video tried to and fanboys try to, and they are just two different markets :D.

well said chris… everyone who i know who has bought a wii has sold it in a month from boredom. except one cuz he now has mario kart. but its only a matter of time. and yea the ps3 is way less expensive than the 360. cuz we dont have to pay for online, wifi, hi def video player, or batteries. lol
I have bought all 3 of the “Next Gen” system’s and the only one I still have is the Ps3~
The crapbox- is a high priced door stopper with a shelf life of 6 minutes.
Wii - is cool for like 10 minutes…
you can only play the same games just with minor changes for so long before it gets old.
the Ps3 has its flaws I.e lack of great games.
but it is still the better out of all of them.
I have never liked the wii, I think it’s a load of rubbish.
It’s a console which caters only to little kids and Mum’s using wii-fit, it will never be in the same catagory as the PS3 and 360.
I have both a PS3 and a 360 and I love both of them but my PS3 gets more love.
It is so funny how defensive everyone gets about their systems! If PS3 was the absolute best then wouldn’t everyone have one? People value different things it consoles. PS3 is almighty and powerful…yes. 360 has a great library of games and the online is excellent and close to flawless. Wii is a great time..better for groups of people rather than solo play.. I guess all I’m trying to say is open your mind a little. IT”S A CONSOLE
I totally agree with Russ above me. For once in the last 15 years (since the megadrive vs SNES battle) all the consoles have something different going for them.
Nintendo have hit a a new area of the market and it’s paying dividends. Sony are amking noises about releasing a new controller to edge in on it but Nintendo have a massive lead. The wii is a quality piece of hardware with some great games on it. So is the PS3. As the original thread says, they both have there plus points and as a result, I have both.
There’s always going to be people with the my console is better than yours mentality, but for once I honestly think there is no be all and end all best console at the moment.
The ps3 is the best of all systems and the most high tech. It also doesn’t break down like the xbox 360’s are known for (red ring of death). People say the ps3 doesn’t have good games but in the next couple of years new games like final fantasy, god of war 3, killzone 2, metal gear solid 4 and other ps3 exclusives will help with the sales of the ps3. hahaha..funni dat u say that tim becusz square enix jusz got signed over 2 360 so ps3 can say good bye 2 final fantasy..ps3 is an alright system and the most powerful computer in the world interms of graphics but if u dnt hav gud games for it then isznt it basicalli put 2 waste..besides the ps3 is a compicat system..the interface is exactli like the ps3..online is free but it sukks and u got ur motion sesitive capability from wii..dnt 4get that becusz ur original system sukk and so wen the wii wusz released dey pulled ba the ps3 and change the comtroller..it use 2 luk like a god damn boomerang. now itsz jusz a ps2 luk-a-like..be real..the original ps3 controlers didnt even have a vibration pad..the ps3 is over rated..itssz dah best graphics but by far not the best becusz im a nintendo lover but i can honestli say the 360 is givin ps3 a run for itsz money..the ps3 dusznt even sell..the ps2 and psp sell more dan it now.hahahaha..some of u need 2 open up ur mind becusz it realli isz a jusz a console 4 different preferences.
