One of the top PSN games around for PS3 is PixelJunk Monsters. The tower game genre has been around for some time but PJM brought a bit of 2D quirkiness (with a nice level of HD polish as well). Good news then as the official US Playstation Blog has info on the release date of the next installment of tribe-saving antics.

PixelJunk Monsters Encore will be available this Thursday May 8th for $5.99. A bargain in all respects. The add on brings a new island for you to rescue from the rhythmic onslaught of cute looking monsters. In addition, there is word of a secret land mass between the original and new islands of Tiki and Toki. Suffice to say, you’ll need to complete all the new levels to discover the secret .

If the expansion is anything like the original, I can see myself getting obsessed with completing it and trying to get those elusive rainbows. No word as yet on an EU release and no news about online co-op, which is a shame.

Hopefully Sony’s new and improved PSN Store will grease the wheels of international distribution.
