Phil Harrison responds to Emotion chip removal
Phil Harrison has responded to the criticism of removing Emotion Engine from PAL PS3, effectively limiting support for PS2 games on PS3. According to Phil Harrison, the Emotion chip was a ?custom? component for the Japanese and North American market. So how many PS2 titles will PAL PS3 able to play? Around 1000 titles according to Mr. Harrison. “We expect the list to encompass over 1,000 PlayStation 2 titles.” While he did not specify which games will be compatible, 1000 titles should include the most popular games released for PS2.
This statement should assuage some anger felt by potential PS3 owners in PAL regions. While I think it?s pretty weak describing the nerf as removing a ?custom? component, Sony should be able to deliver patches to accommodate more compatibility. I hope the removal brings about price cut for PS3 systems.
