Sony released a new Software Development Kit for PS3 which allow limited hardware scaling. This will allow developers to display their games at full 1080i/p much easier than previously possible. Previously, the game developers had to use software scaling to produce higher resolution for their games. This SDK will allow scaling of 720p games to 1080i/p using PS3 hardware. Of course all this is useless information if your playing your PS3 games on CRT TV sets.

your are incorrect in stating crt sets are inferior to other hd displays. quite the contrary, they consistently offer increased sharpness, better color balance and grayscale range over any other form of display. however, the are much more bulky and not as “sexy”. sony still makes a 34″ XBR crt you can purchase for under $1000 that that looks better than any other current display under $2000.
I believe regardless of the display, CRT is losing considerable support. Furthermore, LCDs and Plasmas alike will be continuously improved and will be better and cheaper in coming days. CRT will be thing of past just like VCR.
I should have qualified the CRT comment with non high def CRT TV sets. I’ve never compared tube based high def TV sets with the flat screen sets, LCD or Plasma, so i could’nt say which one is better.
