More Details on Call of Duty: Black Ops Appear

As the days draw closer to the yearly edition of the infamous Call of Duty installment, we have been filled-in with more juicy info about the series' next outing, Call of Duty: Black Ops. Read all about it after the break.
Unless you've been living in a cave for the last fortnight, you're sure to have seen the first trailer for the game - being developed by Treyarch, the developers notorious for filling the "caretaker" slot of the series. This showed us very little about updates to the gameplay, instead focusing on the "where" rather than the "what", with information that the game would take place in locales such as Vietnam, Cuba and the Arctic. The player assumes the role of a Black Ops operative assigned to take part in covert operations during the Cold War. However, the recent details looks to give us more information on the actual gameplay and the content within the game.
First and foremost, the game has been confirmed to be set in 1968, with the Black Ops' main purpose being to kill the spread of Communism. One of the levels demoed by USA Today describes a mission simply called "WMD", which puts the player in an SR-71 Blackbird in the sky, commanding a small squad on the ground through a surveillance camera and directing the team exactly where to go. After this short section, you then switch to a more up-close-and-personal viewpoint, actually becoming one of the soldiers on the battlefield, given the objective to infiltrate a Russian nuclear facility.
Interestingly, the addition of a new weapon - a scoped crossbow, no less - was revealed; not only this, but also shown was the adoption of alternate ammunition types, with explosive arrows being utilized during the playthrough. Perhaps the crossbow will filter out the skilled players from the synonymous campers, ever-present within the FPS universe? Or maybe its explosive rounds will turn what could be a game-maker into an old-school noob-tube? Only time will tell...
Also confirmed is that Call of Duty 7 (can we still call it that?) is a 2-4 player co-operative mode, akin to the one in World at War. However, it wasn't specified if there would be a co-op mode in the style of Spec Ops in Modern Warfare 2, so keep your eyes peeled for news on that soon. To add to the hype, Treyarch's studio head, Mark Lamia has said that the game will span "a longer time period during this era", suggesting that it won't only be based solely in 1968 and instead would focus on "at least two main characters" who get embroiled in conflicts spanning the globe.
So, how do you feel about the game touching on the Cold War era: excited? Intrigued? Or maybe just a bit disappointed at the apparent lack of originality? Hit us up with comments on your thoughts and feelings on Black Ops which is set to land on the 9th November, later this year.

Can't say I'm that excited for this. So many other quality games coming out. Hopefully they prove me wrong.
Yeah, they've definitely picked a period of war as yet uncharted by the Call of Duty franchise, let's hope they produce something of a good quality! :)
I find Treyarchs CoD series much more intriguing and storylines better written, can't wait for this to come out, big up black ops....
Haha, there's been no confirmation on Nazi Zombies, sorry... I'm pissed about it too, but Treyarch aren't dumb enough to leave it out - I guess they just don't want to get typecast as "the Nazi Zombie guys", but it sounds better than "the worse CoD game producers"!
I just want to burn the nazi's so they look like zombies
I just want Nazi zombies
