Modern Warfare 2 Online Down, Back Friday?
Update: As of 8:00 PM San Francisco time, online multiplayer was working fine again. Good job on the quick fix Infinity Ward!
Well, I hope you all enjoyed the whopping 12-24 hours of online play time you had with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 because the online system is down. Multiple comments here at on tweets all over the gaming land are confirming that the online play mode of Modern Warfare 2 is indeed toast. The suspected culprit is the patch, 1.02 that came out last night which was supposed to fix the party invite bug. Well, turns out, it introduced a whole new bug which pretty much renders the party invite glitch moot.
Online problems are nothing new to Infinity Ward and the Call of Duty franchise which makes us wonder, maybe if they spent a little more money on actually debugging and stress testing their games and servers, these kind of things wouldn’t happen. We’ll let you know when online play seems to be back.

Although this is not an ideal situation, perhaps the upside is that i’ll be able to spend some time on campaign and special ops.

I don’t think it was the 1.02 patch’s fault since I couldn’t get to any of the servers today even before I upgraded.
This sertainly sucks.
since when did it ever become acceptable to treat a game launch effectively as an open beta, these problems should have been sorted out in testing. IW is a complete disgrace, i hope treyarch make the next ones.
same…couldn’t get on before the patch….so that can’t be the issue….
doesn’t matter whats went wrong. we all probably made extra effort to buy the game midweek. therefore resulting in less weekend traffic, albeit human or motorised. meaning that I.W. never really had it sorted before launch. buying time to fix it b4 the weekend when the servers will feel the proper force of C.O.D. hence its down now to make sure we all can play @ the weekend?

OMG its down 4 2days..big wow,…ye should be happy its down 4 two weeks…I’l be playing mission mode now.these few days,..so im glad il finsh it b4 friday
Well Im happy that I played it for a solid 10 hours and hit level 38 but now I was wondering what do I do when I get home from work. Special op’s… Not bad, its actually a lot of fun, Thanks PSN! lol :S

it was because the servers crashed, purely down to the amount of people trying to get online, they estimate 2.5 million copies were sold in the first 12 hours so thats alot of stress being put on the server, the are allowing people back onlin 20,000 at a time, all should be sorted and workin fully by friday. i do feel that they should have prepared for this, knowing this was going to be the biggest best selling game EVER and that it is a game known for its outstandin online gameplay. IW should have prepared for this. i dont know what they were thinking.
