Microsoft executive on PS3: “They’re spread really thin”

Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft?s entertainment and devices division, said in a recent interview with Mercury News that Sony is fighting multiple front and their resources is spread thin. ?I need the people who are focused on gaming to focus on Xbox 360 ? you have to distract a whole group of people that are doing content and the Live service and a whole bunch of other things to do that?, he said. ?I think Sony, frankly, suffers a little bit from this problem, which is they”re spread really thin across all these areas. And trying to do PSP, competing with Nintendo, PSP to DS; competing with us, 360 to PS3, I think it does strain — it would naturally strain any organization,” said Robbie Bach when asked about their role in Xune in relationship to Sony PSP and Nintendo DS.

Furthermore when asked about Holiday gift buying trend, Mr. Bach pointed out that it is logical for consumers to go for Xbox 360 due to their lower price point. ?The No. 1 thing happening in the holiday season is where is the content ? The second thing is frankly our value proposition is just better. Our console is at $299 and $399. Sony is going to have a pretty limited supply of consoles at $499 and $599. Consumers want to buy during the holiday. We?re going to be a great logical choice for them”.

Finally, when asked about the Microsoft”s ambition to gain 40% market share here in U.S, Mr. Bach replied by saying that having a good content(killer games) and good price will lead to higher market share.

Obviously the content is the way to go in Video Game market coupled with good price. But the demand for PS3 is way too high and majority of PS2 owners are looking into buying PS3 sometime near future. It is ironic that although, launch titles do not make the PS3 promising at this point, but if you are looking at this xbox 360 vs PS3 competition, you will see that killer apps for PS3 are coming next year with a bang. (Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy 13, and Grand Theft Auto).

There is an old saying, The dogs who bark the loudest usually don”t have much bite.
