Maine Christian Civil League Calls for Modern Warfare 2 Ban
*CONTAINS SPOILERS*
Anyone with even the slightest knowledge of the history of video game violence/controversy could've forseen that Modern Warfare 2's "No Russian" stage was likely to raise some alarms. The infamous scene has the player gunning down innocent civilians in an airport - all while doing the terrorist walk (a slow, menacing, and deliberate stride). The game gives you the option to skip the level, but something tells me that few people will actually utilize that alternative.
Some folks up in Maine didn't take kindly to No Russian. The Maine Christian Civil Leage (MCCL) condemns the game, saying that "any decent citizen ought to ban it." Their site gives more details about their plans, but here are some of the main points:
"The ready availability of drugs, violent video games, and outrageous rock music is a witch's brew which will eventually lead to tragedy here in Maine."
"There is a well-established cause and effect relationship between video games and school shootings, and parents of some of the victims have sued video game makers. Mercifully, our own state has been spared the occurrence of any school shootings, but the danger is growing with each passing day."
"All decent people should denounce the video game Modern Warfare 2; and join in opposing the sale and use of such games. Moreover, it may be time for Maine to begin a debate over the advisability of banning these games completely, giving due consideration to both the First Amendment, and the danger these violent games pose to the public."
Fear not, Modern Warfare 2-ers. The gaming industry is no stranger to poorly-founded attacks. Personally, I'd be surprised if the MCCL's "cause" is still making headlines within a month.

i laughed, do not call maine dumb. whilst their might be some retarded people, they're everywhere. churches always do this dumb shit.
BTW: maine has one of the highest rated school systems in the country.
HAHAHAHAHA THIS IS STUPID!!! they can't ban the game seeing how at the beginning of it, it gives you a heads up saying "some scenes in this game may be to violent for some gamers, would you like to skip these scences?" thats when you decide to pick yes or no.
I completly disagree with the MCCL. Video games and school shootings are not in any way related. Thoses kids were deranged from the get go. They would of shot up those schools either way. If parents want to blame someone they should not blame the video game industry. The should blame them selves. There is the ESRB rating right in front of the package. Read it!!! It's there for parents not for the kids. So stop being a friend to your kid and start being a parent.
@Nayhem
I don't agree with what you have to say, but it's a very interesting perspective.
I am not a fan of censorship so I don't believe this game should be banned. This game is, however, an insult to anyone who ever served this country in or out of uniform. Slaughtering hundreds of innocent families just to "get in good" with the terrorists is exactly how the real terrorists want the world to see us. This game is anti-American and pro-Terrorist. The very next scene shows a Nato soldier torturing a downed combatant with electricity right there in the field .I was online (in a different game) and was explaining to my friends why I returned the game to the store when some kid who could'nt be more than 10 piped up and said he thought it was fine for soldiers to torture the enemy out in the field because "they know what there doing". Is that how we want our kids to think? The gov't doesn't to ban this game, PARENTS need to ban this game, which, by the way, is the most overhyped game since Halo3.
Wait, you can the civvies? I just followed along and flinched, then got capped for my morally cowardly choice. Seriously, why can't the ghost of the PMRC stay staked and face down in its grave?
hahahaha these guys make me laugh its an 18 for a reason if your mom wants to get this game for her son and he is a psychpath its her fucking falt.
If video games caused shootings then pong caused all those shootings back in the day when that was all that was around then
I love it when people say there is a Well established cause and effect relationship between video games and school shootings. huh? What? Show me the well established relationship. I also love it when people say things as fact without any proof. Sorta like religion.
There is only one connection between video games and violence. Apparently it has been found by some study or other (there always seems to be one) that not playing video games causes violence. It involved people who were allowed to play GTA versus those who could not.
I'd also like to put forward the idea that we ban the MCCL from being allowed to publish any of it's opinions, thoughts, and ideas any where but online. Because that way we'll never have to worry about them actually passing any laws.
Wow. These groups LIKE to draw a line to video games, because its an easy scapegoat. Good luck silly maine protesters, you are gunna need it.
Modern Warfare 2 kicks butt they can stick it where the sun don't shine
HAHA people in Maine are such a joke. I mean did they seriously think that they are going to ban one of the greatest video games ever to be made. Come on, get real scrubs. Plus, that level was kind of fun anyways.
