Killzone 3: what could Guerilla Games possibly be planning for multplayer?
It’s not a secret that Killzone 2 is among the best, and most highly regarded multiplayer experiences of this generation. Killzone 3 has been formally announced with a brief look at what the single player has to offer. With a proper reveal of the multiplayer aspects still months away, I wanted to take this opportunity to share my thoughts on the possible features Killzone 3’s multiplayer might have. If they are as ambitions as I think they are, we might be in for one of the best multiplayer experiences ever.
User-generated content has been extremely popular this generation with titles like Halo 3 and LittleBigPlanet paving the way in their respective genres. I suspect Killzone 3 will feature a fully-fledged level editor similar to that seen in the Far Cry series. This type of level editor would include terrain manipulation, filters, weather effects, etc. With Sony fully committed to the Play, Create, and Share ideal it would make sense for them to push these ideas into the first person shooter realm, and what better way than with their flagship title Killzone 3.
Saving instant replays was oddly one of the many possible features left out of Killzone 2; however, Guerilla Games did manage to set up a tactical replay of your matches on the Killzone official website. While that feature was a nice addition for the hardcore; it was out of the way, and needed to be included in game as part of the leaderboards. Not only do I think this feature will be added in-game, but also a full instant replay feature like Uncharted 2’s, allowing for lots of options and manipulation.
From the looks of it Killzone 3 is all about scale and I don’t expect that to change on the multiplayer side. Most games have opted for small random encounters that frankly amount to nothing more than an annoying distraction rather than a meaningful way to measure scale. Hopefully Killzone 3 will change my perception, offering specific multiplayer modes aimed at providing unprecedented scale. For instance, offering a multiplayer mode with A.I would be a welcome addition. Perhaps they could protect the best player, or an objective. This idea alone provides almost infinite game-mode possibilities. Imagine a competitive mode where the ISA are attacking a Helghast installation on a stormy beach, trying to prevent the launch of a nuclear weapon. The ISA are assisted by a large number of A.I soldiers, however the Helghast have superior ground and have installed mounted machine guns. If the ISA fail, they can only watch in horror as their naval fleet is engulfed by the nuke they failed to disarm. Succeed and they prevent the slaughter of your comrades. These types of experiences need to be at the heart of Killzone 3’s multiplayer and I’m sure the team at Guerilla Games will not settle for less.
Frankly these features are just a few of the hundreds of possible features Killzone 3 might have. Is there a particular feature you would like to see? Do you think I’m way off base? Let us know what you think in the comment section.

I really hope for better arsenal of weapons. I really hate the fact that ISA Snipers has the same rifle than the Helghast Sniper. Or the Helghast Tactician has the standard ISA Rifle. Its a shame. They should come up with at least another full auto medium rifle for each side, and another sniper rifle.
Speaking of Large scale Maps, we should talk about vehicles in multiplayer games. At least a Tank, a armed Exo and a Jeep should be in it. Beside the Jet pack and the Drones of course.
Yes.. and the character custimization for Multiplayer would be awesome. At least like in Lost Plannet 2. These are my thoughts..
Greetings
I like the idea of the large scale battles with A.I. support.
What they would have to do is also offer these modes (maybe on a little smaller scale) without the A.I. support. That way even the overly hardcore can't complain.
I really hope they try a lot of new and innovative stuff for the multi- and single-player modes... can't wait!
Jeez , I would like for a New Vietnam game to be released
for ps3 , give me The Jungle and Camo and lots of ammo !
everyone should know Killzone will only be better and will go
on until Rocky hangs up his gloves ?
your friend Sean Devlin , John Marston's friend !
Adding in AI players to the multiplayer game would make it feel more epic in scale and certainly more fun. But you will see people hating it as the game will certainly lose competitiveness.
More than likely what we are going to see in the multiplayer is sometihng along the lines of Battlefied Bad Company 2 Rush mode. This would certainly break the meat-grinder feel of current maps and at the same time make each class more useful. Certainly adding in mini-objectives in the style of Enemy Territory (Splash Damage games) would help the player feel more useful in the battle.
I want to see a character creation or character customization where you could create/customize ur Helghast or ISA guy's appearance.
