Home in Less Than 10 Days? [Updated]
The Times is reporting that Home is ’slated for release in the next 10 days’ in this article. It isn’t really the best source, it’s not a very well written article and The Times wouldn’t be where we’d go for our gaming news anyway, but maybe, just maybe, you’ll have Home by the 17th of December (the article was posted on the 7th).
Why do I say it’s not a very well written article? Well, it says that Sony are ‘to cash in on the massive success of Second Life, which claims to have 15m registered players around the world’, which shows how useless the reporter actually was considering that Home is so very different to Second Life, and it also features this little goldmine of ignorance:
The crucial point for many buyers in these cash-strapped times will, of course, be price. And here the Xbox 360 has the advantage. Microsoft has recently slashed the cost of its Xbox range so that gamers can buy the most basic console for £130. The PS3 will set you back at least £350.
As you all probably already know, the PS3 can be bought for less than £350 (in fact, the only PS3 I’ve seen at that price lately came with 5 games). Also, Home and PS3’s online is free (as I’m sure you know, too), whereas there’s a yearly price for online on the 360, not to mention the extras you’ll have to buy if you do decide to jump at the £130 console, such as a wifi adaptor, which is £58.71 on Game.
Still, any news is good news, right?
Update: Sony ‘are not commenting on that story’.

I don’t understand the fascination with Home. Had the Beta, and I just don’t get the appeal of on-line socializing, and watching people dance hour on end. I guess its just me, but, I find it to be a waste of time.
I agree. Its not that exciting. I have the beta, its nothing to lose sleep about, kind of a disappointment actually.
It was cool for a while, and then the novelty wears off and disappointment sets in, and you realize its pretty boring. Between long load times and watching 40 retards do the running man in a line for 2 hours, there is nothing impressive about it.
So unless they change stuff up when the final version is released, its not going to really make as big of a splash as we think.
It’s a closed beta, there is no content yet because there isn’t supposed to be – they’re doing the server load test thing.
Besides, I love playing pool and bowling in Home, and if you’ve got friends you can talk to them. Or meet people. Then you can start a game of Warhawk.
I want the Home spaces to go live, and I’m assuming they will when the Open Beta is launched, so I’m quite interested.
I’ve got a mobile phone, I find it’s very useful for sorting out games online with friends, I also don’t have to wait for it to load.
The best thing about home for me will be the customisation – I’m a complete nut for customisation – I went through a huge amount of effort to get avatars on my live-broken (not banned) xbox360. And those MS avatars are rubbish.
But the problem is, once you’ve done all that making your character, and setting up your pad, the “game” is over – yes you can play pool/bowling, but really, are you going to meet your mate and say “let’s play bowling” or are you going to say “let’s take down a 40 foot alien in Resistance 2″..which is something you can do far more rapidly by skipping home altogether.
Tag me as a Home cynic – I’ll absolutely love it I’m sure, but only for about a week.
It’s a load test at the moment, there isn’t loads of stuff because there isn’t supposed to be. But hell, 10 days isn’t a long time.
You can call 10 people at a time with your phone?
People rave about the lack of content etc.
But remember that just because they haven’t added it, doesn’t mean they have not made the content. 10 days is not a long time, but the fact that they have not revealed these features, or told anyone about them, it does not mean they don’t exist!
Trust me, you’ll be seeing a lot of new features on Home’s release. And remember, thats the open beta. Home will continue to develop through its life. The more sophisticated development can get, and will get, the more Home will improve.
=) I am very much looking forward to home
hey i’m looking forward to the red bull island, air racing and extreme sports will sure be fun. hopefully they add a kart racing game like the “kart attack” game that blimey was supposed to release to psn.
