HD-DVD is (almost) Officially Dead, Toshiba to Exit Market
That’s right Blu-Ray fans, HD-VD just had a *ton* of nails driven in its casket. Toshiba, one of the initial backers of the HD-DVD format has decided that they will cease production and development of HD-DVD players.
This story was first reported by NHK, the Japanese News Agency. Blu Ray will now have an almost free run to dominate the High Def DVD market. Toshiba is expected to suffer losses in the hundreds of millions of dollars to cease production of HD DVD players and recorders and other steps needed to abandon the product.
Toshiba and the HD-DVD format were dealt a near fatal body blow when Wal Mart announced last week that it had come to its senses and was abandoning the HD-DVD format and would only sell Blu Ray discs going forward. One can only wonder why it took them so long.
This can only lead to increased sales of the PS3 as a consumer, looking to add a High Def DVD player to their system can add both a player and the most incredible gaming system ever in one fell swoop. Of course those of us who already own PS3’s are looking pretty darn smart at this point in time (like we needed any further proof).

and yet 360 owners are still trying to badmouth the ps3 just so they don’t look stupid… (it’s not working)
We knew HD-DVD was a sinking ship, Xbox owners are ignorant, what they don’t see is because of their sight.
I have a PS3 and I couldn’t care less about either HD or Blueray. DVD is okay by me … cheaper to buy and cheaper to copy. As far as Xbox 360 vs PS3, I have them both and like them both. It really comes down to the games. Rightr now I am playing Lost Odyssey (360) and Uncharted (PS3) … love them both. Both systems are great … and neither one is any better than the other … it all comes down to which one has your favorite games. Lucky me … I don’t have to decide. I get the best of both worlds.
