HD-DVD Dead, Now Official.
We all heard the rumours, and rumours began to take on truth as evidence collected, but there was still speculation amongst HD-DVD fans, however today we officially mourn the death of HD-DVD.
As reported in a previous post here on PS3 Vault, we knew it was going to happen, it was imminent. The death of HD-DVD was coming and we all expected Toshiba to simply speed the process up. And now, Toshiba, the primary force behind HD-DVD has announced in a press release that it will cease the manufacture of HD-DVD’s and HD-DVD Players.
Without Toshiba as the vehicle behind HD-DVD, it is dead. Like what we saw with VHS and Betamax, Blu-Ray is destined to be the primary supported HD format until something better comes along.
But don’t feel too down in the dumps if you have a HD-DVD Player, Toshiba has said that they will stockpile players and HD-DVD’s, though no new releases will be made. So it gives you a good few months or more to grab players and any DVD’s you want, before you eventually move to Blu-Ray. I’m sure it will all go down in price now, it may even force Blu-Ray’s prices down a bit too.

Blu-Ray will probably be the last optical media. Devices will no longer be fitted with optical drives. Software, Firmware,Music,Movies will all be downloaded, and myabe eventually streamed real time from servers.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but do you think previous HD-DVD exclusives ie. Transformers will be re released on Blu-Ray ?
Transormers will be on Blu ray and so will many others. Can’t remember when
I am glad it is over
R.I.P HD-DVD.
You were with us a short time, but you gave us much joy.
I would say that you will be sorely missed, but that… well, that would be a lie.
