Hack Allows Unsigned Code on PS3
The pretty clever folks at Team ICE and StreetSkaterFU have discovered a hack which allows users to run unsigned code on a PS3. The code which allows the user to do this is part of an exploit in Resistance, Fall of Man and requires Firmware 2.10.
Details are a bit sketchy at this point but here’s where things are today according to their website. Basically, the hack allows users to run SELF files on the PS3 Operating System. The first step is converting an ELF file to a SELF file which they have already done. Once this code is cleaned up and has screen output, they will write a “Hello World” program.
If you want to watch the hack in action, here’s a YouTube video of it. Be warned, this video is, umm, not the most exciting thing in the world but the background music is pretty sweet in my humble opinion. Anybody knows the source of the song, please comment. Thanks!

this song is from The Island soundtrack and the name of the song is My Name Is Lincoln
Finn, you rock! Found it on Yahoo! Unlimited and enjoying as we speak. Thanks! - Dave
I suspect team ice is using the SDK, which was leaked 6 or 7 months back, which included debugs keys. However, the unsigned resistance files is a nice smoke screen to obfuscate the method of this hack.
Also, I wonder why team ice doesn’t just use the analog video, instead of hdmi? If he wants to get hello-world to work, it might be easier.
Well this looks nice, just that I have no idea at all of what this hack would be necessary for. What would this hack be used for? I really have no idea
Thanks in advance!
Running unsigned code is the gateway to homebrew and maybe even custom firmware.
